Wow... that eye shot.

The DK2 made me literally vomit, is this an improvement?

Lindsay Michelle

I admit, I wonder where this technology is going to go in the future. It seems like it's already evolving a lot over the past year or two already! Also, this video reminded me that I still do not own a smartphone and that I really need to fix that one day. I was thinking of possibly getting a Samsung, though! I just haven't decided when, is all. :P

First thought, before even watching this... Awesome thumbnail pic, or whatever it's called. Thoughts after watching this... I need to upgrade my old Note 3 to the 6!

This is a really good review, although it reminds me of why I don't have any interest in VR as it stands currently. I sometimes feel like I should, as I'm into tech (obviously, being an LGR fan), and the potential applications are cool and all... but as long as it requires bulky, expensive equipment that itself requires a really specific set of conditions to use effectively, it limits its appeal. The early adoption problem, of course. Though honestly, I don't think anything short of Holodeck-level experiences would interest me, and we're unlikely to see anything like that in my lifetime.

This is definitely a new era in VR, it's incredibly exciting! I can imagine all sorts of uses, from entertainment to education to rehabilitation.

I had a Note 2 for a long time! It was still an amazing phone even up to the point I upgraded.

LazyGameReviews

Yeah, it's definitely for a niche market of early adopters at this point. Although this is the best price/performance/ease of use combination so far, so I'm hopeful that people gravitate to this instead of the awful experience of using Google Cardboard

The thumbnail pic is perfect on so many levels! Seriously though, it's a shame that you couldn't capture any footage from your phone, as it certainly would have been neat (even in that traditional VR way) of seeing some of the experiences out there. I guess like VR on the desktop, there's the upfront cost of the phone to factor in (whether on contract or not). Still it's amazing to have a portable device for VR (because, let's face it - based on Oculus's specs, laptops aren't going to be there for a while…)

talking like an idiot before seeing the whole video: And I can't even use google cardboard because of my crooked nose! I wonder how the other Smartphone Headsets are in that point.

oh I got to check this out. I had the sdk2 but ended up selling it back as I wasn't using it after a month. it was too much to fiddle with . this seems rather painless and usable however

Hi Clint, Would you be so kind as to contact me regarding you seeing the next stage in VR

Last Samsung phone I had was the Galaxy S4, which I gave to mom. So unfortunately I won't be able to get this and use it. Though I am glad to see such a solution available to people!

Driving two 4k screens (min resolution to be even close to comfortable) requires a super duper beefy rig. Heck even my gaming PC with one 980 GTX has issues driving my 1440p screen at a steady 70 ish framerate, and i have a 165hz monitor lol.... having a rig that can twin 4k at 120hz min ... ouch.....

LazyGameReviews

The S4 is several generations too old to use it anyway :) Well worth it if you ever get one of the new ones though!

LazyGameReviews

I sold my DK2 after a while as well, but yeah, this one I'll be keeping. Far cheaper and far simpler to set up and use!

LazyGameReviews

This one does rest on the bridge of your nose quite a bit, so it'd be worth trying out in a store to see!

LazyGameReviews

True, even under contract you're still talking $200 at the minimum. Far, far less than what you have to pay for with other headsets though!

Thanks LGR! You gave me all the information I needed to know that I wanted one of these. Great review!

Nice review as always. It would be awesome if you made a video about 90s VR headsets, like the Cybermaxx and the Forte VFX1!

I like VR as much as I like 3D... none! But the eyes part was just awesome!
