Had a good number of requests to cover this after the most recent donations unboxing, so here we go! Thanks again to David for sending this rarity my way.

Extra Speed, to my knowledge, is the only unauthorized add-on pack to The Need For Speed for MS-DOS PCs. So in this video we're taking a look at the contents, including custom tracks, modding applications, a PCX photo collection, and shareware racing games. Also tried my hand at quickly making my own custom track for the game, with um, amusing results.

Yeah, when I first heard about this pack several years ago I was surprised to say the least. The modding scene for the original TNFS was never too significant, so seeing a collection of 500 tracks -- much less 500 tracks sold at retail in a big box package like this -- is downright surreal. If nothing else it's neat to have an archive of so much custom content that was only available on fansites in the mid-90s.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the video! Nothing too in-depth here but I thought it'd be fun to document this weirdness in LGR video form.

The Unofficial 1997 Need For Speed Addon: We All Need Extra Speed

The Need For Speed never received a licensed expansion pack. Unlicensed though? Well, there was at least one: We All Need Extra Speed, released by UK Gold in 1997 as a European exclusive. With 500+ custom tracks! ● Download the CD ISO archive here: https://archive.org/details/XTRSPEED ● LGR links: https://www.patreon.com/LazyGameReviews https://www.twitter.com/LazyGameReviews https://www.facebook.com/LazyGameReviews ● Music courtesy of: http://www.epidemicsound.com #LGR #NFS #Expansion

Really love this. UK Gold = a staple!

Loved this video :D

I'm just disappointed that this expansion pack didn't include more of the "X Man" from the 3DO version...

The fact that someone took the time to painstakingly find all these tracks and put them onto a CD-ROM, commercially, back in the 90's-00's is just... bravo.

So UK Gold is in the Netherlands? Damn Brexit.

Dying laughing at the opponent airplane 😂

Interestingly Turbo Cup Challenge doesn't feature a 288 GTO either, the car you drive in that game looks most like a Porsche 928.

I lost it when I first saw the shadow coming in and then the car landing :D Great episode! Keep it up!

It's almost as fun as making those weird tracks in Stunts. ^_^ I also enjoy getting up on the ridge of Motocross Madness 2 and hitting the invisible boundary, being flung all the way into the map. Gotta love game physics. :D

Two time mention on LGR. Finished second major and buying a house. Life is going great for me 😁 I'm honestly glad you had some fun with this weirdness. You're the best dude.

This reminds me of the CD-ROMs that came in those "exploring the Internet" books that were in all the bookstores in the 1990s. Within a year, most of the links were broken and most of the software and guides on the CD were useless. Life before Google was hard. But the obligatory weird and disorganized shareware collections live forever!

Glad you uploaded this to the Internet Archive!

I think you're the only person I'm aware of who is just as obsessed with the old Need for Speed games as I am. These were an integral part of my child hood, I absolutely loved them. The soundtracks got me into electronic music which I absolutely love (RIP Saki Kaskas <3) and the games definitely got me into cars.

This is awesome, wish I had something like this growing up
