Considered vaporware since 1992, but finally the sequel to Chip's Challenge is a complete and buyable game! How does it stack up after over 20 years of waiting? Well... pretty decently, depending on how you look at it!

Wow... I never dreamed this would happen. Weird.

Huh, that's actually pretty cool in a way. Would be cool if we could run it on our retro machines as well.

It's great to see a 'lost' game released after all this time! I'd not even heard about the second one even existing until the press release for this build. But yeah, I'd rather have waited a bit more for them to just improve the presentation a tad. I don't really have issue with the game looking & sounding like it's from 1991/2, but it'd be great if they'd released it as an anthology with the first - nicely presented like those classic game packs. Still, watching a lot of other folk I know going nuts when it was incoming was priceless though :)

Agreed. Maybe in the future it'll be augmented, but I totally understand leaving it as-is too.

But the most important question remains: does it say "bummer" when you die??

This looks so retro in all the worst ways it hurts... and that's why it appeals to some people like us I suppose

It sounds like the window isn't scaleable? What a pitty, I hope it comes with biniculars because on my 4K Screen this will look hilarious. Well I gues the microsoft scaling will just scale it like it does all games if you tell it not too. Seriously try it out! Even many modern 3D Games will be scalled which is rediclius.

Yeah, most Windows (or desktop in general) programs aren't being made with hidpi screens in mind and most likely they wont be made for long time. For that reason alone i do not see myself going above a 2K (2560x1440) monitor for a long time, and even that only at at least 27". I used 4K at work and with a few exceptions the choice is between things looking ugly blurry or unusable tiny.

Am I crazy wishing more simple, "retro" games that are good would come out? I know there's a trend with games like Shovel Knight and Volgarr the Viking, for example, but I mean more simple.

Very nice review. I am definitely going to check it out. Also, the music at the end reminds me of Dust: A Tale of the Wired West.

I'm all on-board with that idea. You can get a good fix with the homebrew scene at least, with people making new games for old consoles and computers and producing ROMs for them
