STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM.

This one's been a long time coming indeed. Was inspired to finally get to it after completing another (somewhat related) video project which you'll be seeing here soon :)

LGR - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Time for an LGR retrospective on the fourth Elder Scrolls game! It was the first entry in the franchise for millions of players in 2006, but how well does Oblivion (and its expansions Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles) hold up twelve years later? ● Buy the game on GOG here (LGR affiliate link) https://www.gog.com/game/elder_scrolls_iv_oblivion_game_of_the_year_edition_deluxe_the?pp=fa33988727d7f572be002b845e65858e68bb92e9 ● More LGR links: https://twitter.com/lazygamereviews https://www.facebook.com/LazyGameReviews https://www.patreon.com/LazyGameReviews ● Music credits go to: http://www.epidemicsound.com #LGR #ElderScrolls #Oblivion

Best way to wake up!

Ah Oblivion! The game where I can only resist for so long save-scumming a sigil stone for 25% chameleon and then duping it for perfect invisibility armor.

What a brilliant introduction to the video lol. This was indeed my first play through an Elder scrolls game. I still have that map hanging on my bedroom wall. I totally forgot about that bribing system in the game. I think I read a tweet a few days ago hinting at this review and I instantly got excited! Great review man! Already looking forward to next time!

LazyGameReviews

Thank you! Yeah I've been hinting at this off and on for a while, figured it was as good a time as any.

LazyGameReviews

This and Morrowind were games that I relied on save-scumming the most, haha. I also blame Oblivion for my obsessive tendency to try and pick every single mushroom, flower, and plant I see in every open world game, ever.

Ah, yes, good old Oblivion. Lets see how to fix you... - Oblivion Mod Manager - Oblivion Script Extender - Unofficial Patch - DarNified UI - If you use the German version: Oblivion Deutsch (Yep, they really fucked up that one badly...) - Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul - Unique Landscapes (Fixes those barren landscapes and makes them unique and fitting to the lore of the region) - Elsweyr (Just because my character wants to visit her homelands. ;) ) Now the game starts to be playable. :)

Hearing Sean Bean talking about Jauffrey at this point in time feels so strange... Still - my main reason for doing the Main Quest at all is that you get Boromir's voice in your game.

LazyGameReviews

Haha, yeah it seems like every Elder Scrolls really should come with its own separate disc of "repairs" before playing. Especially Gamebryo Engine titles.

I was so hyped up for this game when it came out, even pre-ordered the collectors edition, something I almost never do. I really enjoyed it in the beginning despite the clunky interface, but it got so incredibly repetitive after a while that i never actually completed it. Also the first game I can remember seeing streamed online, Gamespot did a several hour long gameplay stream of it, before the game was out I think.

Great video as always. I feel like the Elder Scrolls have never quite gotten the balance right between open world ambition and narrative depth and nuance. IMHO Grand Theft Auto, Fallout, Witcher and Red Dead Redemption got the balance much better. Maybe it’s a holdover from the “use your own imagination” roots of fantasy RPGs that still infuses the Elder Scrolls franchise.

Here's hoping that some day you'll review The Elder Scrolls: Travels games (Stormhold and Dawnstar on J2ME devices, and Shadowkey on the Nokia N-Gage).

I bought this game before I had a computer capable of running it... BUT THAT DIDN'T STOP ME! I installed KernelEx onto my Win98 system, set the detail settings to the absolute minimum, disabling the lighting engine in the process, and played it anyways! ...even with the graphics completely knackered and minute-long loading times it was still enjoyable! ;)

BastetFurry

Well, it gets repetitive if you checklist it, but if you really go into RPGing it then it rocks. Spend countless hours in Tamriel and i am preparing my next "vacation" already. Tips: - Ignore fasttravel. - Go adventuring without a real purpose. - Install Unique Landscapes for that Aww and Wonder and just standing there for a minute or two admiring that little hidden place you just found.

Had to use Oldblivion back then because my graphics card was too old for the shaders. :D

"It's a flawed game, to be sure. But a welcome one." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca-e5MrVbVU lolol <3

I have the Collector's Edition for PC and I'm fortunate to still own both the Septim Coin and two copies of the Journal, one in English and one in French. I must have clocked in over 400 hours in that game

LazyGameReviews

I'd love to! But tracking down original copies hasn't happened yet. Also, capturing the actual gameplay is gonna be tough.

Off topic. Love the channel. Check out Hoovies Garage. He has tons of fans and Doug Demuro too. These guys buy cars and review them and also review other people’s cars. Might get some inspiration there.

In 2008, I just started dating my new boyfriend (I was 14) And the first time I went to his home he was playing this game and tried so hard to get me into it and I dismissed it. In 2018, we are still together and now I'm obsessed with learning the lore of Elder Scrolls. Amazing how one person can change someone so much. Right now we speak about what would be next in the series :D

“First Elder Scrolls game to feature full voices acting for every NPC”. Guess Redguard and Battlespire don’t count?

Anonymous

This game was the first time I bought a graphics card just to play a game.

LazyGameReviews

Those are Elder Scrolls Adventures and Elder Scrolls Legend games, respectively, totally separate spin-offs. "The Elder Scrolls" is its own series, which Oblivion belongs to. So nope :)
