I've been really excited to talk about this thing ever since I received it due to the very nature of the device.  So here's an early draft of the video :)

Also, this is the first video I've uploaded in 4K60fps and I'm still ironing out a whole list of quirks with this new camera. Lemme know what you think though!

LGR - Adlib Sound Over Parallel! The OPL2LPT

For PCs without a sound card or those that lack a free upgrade slot, getting proper OPL2 FM synth support can be elusive. But thanks to Serdashop you can make that happen over the printer port! ● You can buy one of these from Serdaco: http://www.serdashop.com/OPL2LPT ● Consider supporting LGR on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LazyGameReviews ● Social links: https://twitter.com/lazygamereviews https://www.facebook.com/LazyGameReviews ● Music used in order of appearance: The Years We Had, Relaxation Station http://www.epidemicsound.com

haha.. You just HAD to beat me to the mark, huh? :-)

Whoever's video goes public first, make sure you mention that the TSR requires a 386+, and that 8086/80286 systems will need the executables patched in order to use this.

Do you have tested the bass booster ?

Reading about an incoming OPL2LPT video on The 8-Bit Guy feed and receiving a notification from LGR on the same topic made me think about a crossover.

No Duke makes a Lazy into a Sads.

I have noticed that Doom plays music but not sound FX. Are they disabled or the card is not able to play PCM?

Anonymous

Wow, Kings Quest sounds like heaven :D wow

Anonymous

the keen4 sounds just hit me in the feels, every damn time :)

Terry Lee

So it can play the Doom music but not the gunshots and enemy attacks?

LazyGameReviews

Yep, those are PCM sounds that would normally be handled by something like a Sound Blaster. I'll add a note about this in the next draft of this video!

The Doom level 1 music sounds fantastic. Bummer about Duke Nukem 3D though. I'm sure a lot of the issues you've pointed out will be ironed out with time and software updates ☺

Oh yeah, the video is way better. CRT looks so sharp!

Two LGR videos uploaded in the same day?!?! Christmas has come early! :)

4K 60FPS? As if my internet could ever handle that, lol

LazyGameReviews

Mine either :P I actually upgraded my internet as soon as I went to upload this video, haha. File sizes are getting intense.

LazyGameReviews

Yeah, I am excited for the future updates to this setup :) Duke3D is just one patch away from working, I am sure!

Looks great! I'm glad to see you're enjoying the GH5 too. I use one and absolutely love it. A sort of unadvertised feature that might come in real handy for you, as it does for us, is the Syncro Scan function. This allows you to adjust the shutter speed to a point value, which lets you perfectly match your CRT TV's and monitor's refresh from game to game or console to console, creating a perfect image free of lines and flicker. Check it out if you have a chance.

Beautifully sharp and smooth. And I loved that reversed shot where the focus went from the background to your hands before you even showed it to the autofocus. :) Also: Nice content once again.

LazyGameReviews

Yeah it's great so far! The sync scan was used for sections throughout this video since these games were largely playing at 70hz :) Still had some tricky screens but it's an excellent feature.

SuperBunnyBun

interesting. when you entered level 1 of commander keen, watch the left speaker. the meshing flickers a bit. I guess the camera is running some kind of auto color correction or contrasting.

LazyGameReviews

From my testing it has to do with the continual auto focusing. I filmed the KQ5 segment after correcting for that and it looks better I think!

So, not going to do me much good on the 386 PS/2, but could be rather useful in general. Interesting. Might have to pick one up at some point. Someday I'll find an MCA Sound Blaster. Someday...

Growing up we always had PCs in the house, but none of them ever had a soundcard. I remember visiting a friend's house who had a 486 with a SoundBlaster card and bring amazed by the extra immersion music and sound effects brought to games like Syndicate or Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Those 256 VGA era games really suited the synth soundtracks the OPL chips produced. I've just ordered one of those for my Toshiba TC4700 laptop. There's just something special about actual hardware...

I'm probably just odd but 60fps looks so weird, like it's hyper-real and playing slightly too fast. Shame YouTube doesn't offer the option to choose HD 30 fps on videos filmed at 60fps so I switch it down to 480p :|

King's Quest V!!!! I spent many hours as a kid playing the Sierra games - but thank $DEITY you did not play the town music hahaha
