LGR - Corncob 3D - DOS PC Game Review

World War II never happened, but aliens sure did! Take a seat in your F4U Corsair and shoot down UFOs and other sci-fi weirdness in one of the more oddly-named flight sims. ● Please consider supporting LGR on Patreon! http://www.patreon.com/LazyGameReviews ● Twitter and Facebook: https://twitter.com/lazygamereviews http://www.facebook.com/LazyGameReviews

Oh wow! You just made me have a 20 year old flashback! I totally forgot buying Corncob 3D.

Man, when I was a kid, my cousin had a P90 Compaq Presario running Windows 3.1 / TabWorks. It wasn't called Corncob 3D though; It was called F4U Secret Sortie, and was packed in with an edutainment product called Aviation Adventure (by Knowledge Adventure). It wasn't until years later that I'd figure out that it was a separate game called Corncob and that the real game had combat. In F4U though, there were no aliens and no shooting, just flying, and honestly I think they tweaked the engine to have a more realistic flight model. The objective of missions turned out to be flying from one airstrip to another (ostensibly while carrying something "secret") without being caught on enemy radar and without trashing your plane on landing. That was always the tricky part. The bundle also came with the requisite educational stuff, as well as a paper plane glider game, and incidentally also a number of cool paper planes pre-built and with all the steps needed to make them. I remember making all kinds of paper planes complete with ailerons and so on to alter their trajectories. Good times.

Haha the graphs are extreme, very trippy, very cool.

Impressive and unique game. :) But can you find ammo for your pistol once you're on foot ? Or is it doomed to failure if you still have lots of aliens to kill ?

This was one of those games I wanted to try as a kid but the copies I found on shareware CDs and download sites never worked, so I largely wrote this game off as something that was just failtastic and not worth anyone's time. So the instant I saw the title of this video, I thought to myself, "I'm finally gonna see what these games I could never play are about", and just... wow... I would've played the crap out of these as a kid if they worked for me back then! D:

Aw man, that's too bad!! It was a bizarre staple of a point in time of my childhood, and it absolutely captivated me.

...and I just realized I referred to a singular game in my comment using plurals. XD

Never even heard about this game growing up and my dad had a lot of shareware. Would've been all over it.

Turns out I missed a couple rather important features that I wanted to talk about. Here's the updated version of the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgXUe0m2msY
