Can't see the video about rune? Cannot play video it says...

Video unavailable :(

Now you need to do Die by the Sword next!

Wow, you are looking better and better. My jaw dropped when opened the video. You changed a lot in the last 2 years. Anyway, Rune FTW! I have heard about it around the time when Severance was already out in 2001, and it overshadowed Rune to me. But I completed only Rune yet, not so long ago, in 2011 or 2012.

Regarding the darkness, It certainly depends on the hardware, I don't remember having problems with the game. I am not sure if it was the nGlide fix I used, or D3D though...

LazyGameReviews

It's not a "problem" per se, since as I said you can simply increase the brightness to fix it. But the fact that by default it's SO dark is an issue.

LazyGameReviews

Thank you! And I've still never played Severance, need to do so one of these days. Never saw it in stores back then, only Rune.

One of my favourite PC titles, mostly cause I'm from Norway and love the norse feel of it. I grew up with norse mythology and playing a bloody awesome game influenced by it is one of my favourite things to do. Also helps Ragnar is a fucking mead-guzzling head-ripping bloodthirsty badass

It's a common problem with older Unreal engine games I've noticed, especially games like Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex etc. that they all look really dark for some reason. I think it's cause they rely on being played fullscreen and increasing the brightness automatically.

Hit the atmospherics right on the head. Looking back, I think one of the reasons I liked just being in the game was that it didn't have music and the ambient sound was well done. Also: waterfalls - oh yeah. I think I remember this game being one of the first where 3D acceleration paid off big time and I experienced the weirdness of high frame rates. One of the Blurry Poly Era greats. Gotta dust this one off.

Actually, now that I better remember it is engine related, at least somewhat. I am sure that I had the same thing with Deus Ex on newer hardware, and that there were differences in image quality between Unreal and Unreal Gold. So I am not sure that these were originally that dark(though I suppose you can check it on original hardware). Strangely I don't remember this being an issue with the version I played, though I had other issues with the menu. That was fixed by a (maybe fan-made) patch though, and it was before the GoG version was released. So yeah, the joy of playing on PC also means that "your mileage may vary".

Okay, I sincerely thought that game Fort Courage was called Fart Courage......... it's been a long day. Also I figured it wasn't that much of a long shot for that to be the title, for it being an LGR video and all. ;) But really, this video makes me want to dust off my PS2 and play it. Early 00s gaming was awesome and still has that charm you were mentioning - to me it's not only nostalgic, but also a pleasant simplicity compared to all the doodads and features in games today. :)

Are those game related SpaghettiO's or just a snack?

Thanks to Odin, we have lots more mythology to draw from for game designs. ;) I never knew about this game actually since I mostly missed the late 90s and early 2000s for PC gaming. Definitely seems like something to check out when I get a chance. :)

Ahh Mageslayer. Now that's a fun little gem that needs to find its way on GOG one day. Also thanks for reminding me for one of those games that as been lurking in my Steam library unplayed for so long I forgot about it. I figured it wouldn't be as fun as Gothic (and it seems I'm right, but it's a slightly different gaming style altogether), I might give it a try anyway.

I really enjoyed the amount of details about Rune itself, it's releases, and extended universe. I only played it once (with a Voodoo 3 and a Pentium 3 :) ) in the 90s and was bored really fast. I know realise how much I was wrong about Rune. Thanks ! :)

If anybody is interested in Rune Classic on steam, It's actually a part of a Bundle Stars bundle for $2.99. I actually have a lot of memories with the PS2 version, as it was the first game I played on the system. Thanks for the reminder Cliff! Really looking forward to playing a much better version!
