Patreon Tier Thoughts (possibly important) (Patreon)

talking with a friend today and I've come to realise that im 2 1/2 years into Patreon already . I always wanted to make my patreon affordable and worth it so I kept my tiers pretty low ( in my opinion) and I haven't changed them in two years .

Now that being said my art has developed a little bit since then and I do offer quite a few variants with each pack
( totalling around 10 cents / image)
soo my thoughts right now are that I MIGHT increase the tiers a BIT

Tons of other yaoi artist charge up to $50 for all their monthly rewards which is TEN TIMES what I charge which I don't mind BUT I am still in school , Im paying tuition myself with no financial aid , I pay rent myself , all my bills , etc which works fine when I'm doing Patreon AND 30 hours a week at minimum wage but I've cut back my working hours to almost none and I really really want to keep it that way because I do love channelling my time into art more than I do into meaningless labour at a butcher shop.

I wont change anything now because im still iffy on whether or not its justified to charge people $10 for my art packs or not so I'll put it off until the new year in 2018 but here are my thoughts IF if I decide to change the tiers
$1    - donation - you get one patreon exclusive sketch I did that month

$5   - SFW images ( all of them , all the bulges and the clothing variants)
       - voting rights

$10 - NSFW images ( every image I do this month , all of them , and gifs if   
         I do those )
       - suggesting rights 

$15 - PSD's

$20 - a previous months rewards along with the $15 rewards

at this rate it is still around 20 cents / image which isnt bad at all but im still considering it because sometimes my rewards arent the best and its easier to justify it for $5 versus $10 but we'll see

if i do end up changing the tiers I will NEVER change them again because $10 is the absolute highest price my brain can process for my art I can not sleep at night if I charge more than that on Patreon

I want to know what you think though ! I really do !

Do what you gotta do, but I know for me at least that I can't afford double the price. You may lose half your people which would be the same as you're making now or you may make more. Think it over, and let us know

Think I'm going to sit at the spot I'm at but if this helps you then do it. With this being your primary source of income and all. Just think about it this might turn off so people. other pieces might convince them to stay.

I'm already paying $10 for the NSFW tier. Which is completely fine. It is a reasonable price to help support your art. But I don't know if I can afford say double that price. I'd still support, but it would have to be a lower tier then

I don't see much difference in the proposed tiers, other than the number of images due to fewer variants? I've always made a point of supporting artists for at least a full year, so whatever you decide will be fine with me.

ack i wont be able to afford the 10$ nsfw but i would understand if you increase your prices... i dont know what i would do exactly but i def wouldnt be able to do the nsfw tier then

Your work is exemplary, but my budget is without much flexibility. I would probably bump up to $5 to still see the SFW images, from my current $3

yes the only change is you wouldnt get the PSDS but Im also thinking I might add the psds to the $10 if I do this change too ? who knows. Thanks for your support and your comments !

the difference is basically patrons are paying 40%($3 - $5) - 100%($5 - $10) more for their tier if I change things. I appreciate your support and thanks for commenting !

tldr: I'm fine with that, but you might do better with a slightly different plan. I've said before that you really offer a lot in your packs, and I appreciate that. I also feel a little bad about it because you give me more for less $ than I get with most other artists I support. I'm personally ok with $10 for what is currently your $5 tier, which is still a competitive level with other artists. That said, though, no one wants to pay more in the future than they are now, right? :) I'm close to the limit of what I can do on Patreon, and I would prefer to give a little support to several artists instead of giving more support to fewer artists. There are some I just haven't been able to support yet. In addition to already supporting several others, their packages are slightly higher than some others artists', and that is why I haven't started supporting them yet. I guess what I'm saying, in a roundabout way, is that I think you might be better off raising from $5 to, say, $7 instead of $10. The question I think you should answer for yourself is: Can I get more than 7 patrons for $10, or more than 10 patrons for $7? (I used 7 and 10 to make the math easy.) If you can get 10+ at $7 (for $70+), but only 6 at $10 (for $60), then you're better off with $7 instead of $10. If you can get 8 at $10 (for $80) but only 9 at $7 (for $63), you're better off at $10, speaking from a financial point of view. There are other things to consider too, like whether you want your art to be more accessible or more exclusive, etc. It might also be better to change to a per-package plan instead of a per-month plan.

Honestly, knowing it's helping you would be even more of a reason to continue paying for my tier regardless of price. I'm a struggling college student as well, but what you're offering and what you're doing with your life in regards to your art is incredibly commendable. And I seriously respect you for being so up front and honest with your supporters about potentially necessary changes like this. Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure a lot of us aren't going anywhere. I'm glad to offer any advice or insight that I can. Even though you've decided to keep things as they are, it's a good idea to reevaluate these kinds of things from time to time and ask for feedback from your supporters. I've heard from some artists who have made changes, like from post-pay to pre-pay plans, without asking for feedback first and and as a result they totally pissed off their patrons.
