THREE HOURS. Imma be honest, I didn't even watch the whole thing in one sitting initally. Watched day 1 on one day and day 2 two days later OPENING PERFORMANCE - I really wish we had subtitles, especially for Youngji's part. - I don't know if Youngji counts as an idol but she is for sure one of my favourite rappers ever. Not just from Korea, I mean generally! - Le Sserafim have such a strong identity and Eunchae perfectly captures that here. - Big YES to instrument playing idols! - Treasure rap unit! Those thee are also the ones that did VolKno together. - Hyunsuk actually reminds me a bit of Bobby. Very similar energy. I'm sure he must have been a big influence. Kep1er - Xiaoting, I love you but these shades look ridiculous 😅 - Interesting choice to perform their Japanese comeback here instead of Giddy or Galileo. Maybe because this year's MAMA was held in Japan? - The power of love? I prefer the power of kicks and sick flips! - Mission Complete. Probably the last MAMA stage for Kep1er and they ended strong! YOSHIKI - A bit of background: Yoshiki is the founder, drummer and pianist of the J-rock band X Japan. They've been around since 1982. And yes, he doesn't look it but Yoshiki is indeed 58 years old. Endless Rain is one of their biggest hits. Originally came out in 1989. - VOCALS! - You should check out Boynextdoor, I think you'd really enjoy their MAMA and especially MMA stages as well :) The MMA arrangement of But Sometimes goes crazy. - I didn't know this song before this performance but it's beautiful. - Good save 😂 xikers - Xikey is a b-side from their debut EP. And still my favourite xikers song! - The sheer fucking energy of this group. What the hell. JEON SOMI - The Way is a b-side to Fast Forward. - jayme could throw me to the side any day... I mean, what? Did I say anything? - Honestly, Fast Forward might be the song I watched the most live stages for this year. It was ADDICTING. - People criticised Somi for this choreo? What? Dynamicduo X SWF2 - Full disclosure, I messed up here. There are two more videos of different parts of this performance but they're region locked. Probably due to copyright because they used western pop songs (Diamonds by Rihanna, Whoopty by CJ and Mi Gente by J Balvin and Willy William). Either way, I didn't have those in the playlist at first. What you saw are only the first and the last song of the entire SWF2 performance. - Dynamicduo are a legendary hip hop duo that started off all the way back in 2004. - I really gotta catch up on Street Woman Fighter. Both seasons. ENHYPEN - If you think about it, those are the perfect suits for a vampire. Bloodstains just become part of the design. - I'm really bad with their names but that one guy with the tongue needs to calm tf down. TXT - Are we back on the Magic Island? - Chasing That Feeling might be their best song yet. That synthy 80s „crying in the club“ feeling just gets to me. TVXQ! - That's really cool that the producer commented! - So they technically debuted this song here at MAMA. The MV came out later. - Not much to say here. 20 years of experience really show. - Riizing Sun! - Oh my god I forgot they incorporated elements of Chase Me in the dance break! Both in the instrumental and also in the choreo! Chase Me was the first TVXQ song I ever heard and generally one of the first Kpop songs I heard. - And THAT is how you end day 1 of MAMA. Now that we're finished with day 1, can I just point out how weirdly big the distance between the stage and the audience is? There is just so much empty space. ATEEZ - Inception but make it spicy. - That guy is Ryu Seung-ryong, a well known actor who has been acting on stage since he was 15 years old in 1985. And he also started appearing in front of a camera in 1998. Guy has been around. - Okay San but why did you have to take your shirt off - Good old Mnet camerawork strikes again. - I watched the Mama stage first and Crazy Form didn't have much of an impact on me. And now I understand why. It's that asinine camerawork. The song started to work a lot better for me when I watched the MV. EL7Z UP - Queendom Puzzle flopped as a show. You know how the production value fell off in the second half and people just lost interest. And that translates to the rather modest numbers that the group is pulling now. I will also say that Cheeky didn't do them any favours as a debut song. They should have debuted with a concept like Snap or Bad Blood. I'm sure that would have gotten a lot more attention. - And this just proves it. This concept is such a perfect fit for them! Holy shit what a performance! Goddess Awakened - Arielle who? I only know Yunjin The Great Mermaid is a b-side from Le Sserafim's debut album btw. - XIAOTING OH MY GOD THOSE EYES Also, do you remember this song? Snake from GP999? :) - Monika and Bada. Is this basically both seasons of Street Woman Fighter colliding? - Minnie the absolute Lion Queen herself! I'm slightly sad that I didn't get to hear this song at the concert. - This whole collab stage might be my favourite thing to come out of MAMA 2023. RIIZE - I will never get tired of saying this: Seunghan should be here with them. This is one of the stupidest „controversies“ I've ever seen in Kpop. - MAMA 2023 took place at Tokyo Dome which has an all-seating capacity of 42,000 people. - And it's really impressive how they already stand on a huge stage like this less than two months after debut. - Everything until TVXQ was day 1 and Ateez started day 2. That might explain the weird camerawork, maybe it was different people on duty for the second day. NiziU - This is the performance where the camerawork pissed me off the most. They have this tutting part in the choreo. Inticrate hand movements where you absolutely need a close up. And BOTH TIMES THEY DO A SUPER WIDE SHOT WHERE YOU CAN'T FUCKING SEE THEIR HANDS. WHAT THE FUCK MNET. ZEROBASEONE - Hanbin you perfect bastard - Take My Hand is a b-side to Crush. There's something so hypnotic about this song. Maybe it's in the instrumental. - And then they tear the fucking roof off with Crush LE SSERAFIM - I swear, Chaewon will be the death of me. I'm a mess mess mess mess mess mess mess - BOOM BOOM BOOM - yunjin what the hell - This was so good but so short. They should have been given the time to perform two songs like most other groups. TREASURE - That intro is so cheesy I love it - T5 brings the heat, yes - Oh man, Bona Bona goes so damn hard. (G)I-DLE - I can speak from first hand experience, their stage presence is fucking crazy. Very few groups can match them. - But why did they only perform one song? Could you imagine I Want That at MAMA? SEVENTEEN - The Gods of Music themselves! - What a perfect song to just celebrate the joy of music! - This „Seventeen right here!“ always gets me hyped. Iconic. - What a finale, huh? Very happy to help with the playlist :)

Naneun Lee Young Ji! 😄 Kep1er in latex was awesome. I was a bit shocked about the edgy-ness at first but then I was reminded of them twerking on Queendom 😄 But they definitely pulled it off. Didn't feel weird or anything 👍 Yeah, the Yoshiki performance was one of my favs. The xikers performance wasn't for me. Too shouty. Their energy was great though. I had never heard this Somi song before (The Way) but I immediately playlisted it 😄. Somi looked damn sexy in that second outfit 😍 Yeah, those Enhypen suits were really cool. TXT, I like the whistling part of Sugar Rush Ride, but I'll never like the "Sugar Rush Ride" part. I friggin love Chasing That Feeling. Might be my song of the year. From the isolations alone you can tell U-Know is an amazing dancer. And those vocals gave me chills! 😵 The guy with Ateez is famous actor Ryu Seung-ryong. I like you pointing out the weird camera choices. Mnet sometimes really doesn't understand choreography, what the highlights are, etc. The one thing I found weird was Jong-ho's outfit: everyone was wearing some flashy outfit while Jong-ho looked like he forgot to change. I agree with EL7ZUP not getting enough promotion, especially if you compare it to the other Mnet group ZB1. We already saw it during QP though: very low budget stages, and you can also see it in their promotional outfits. It all comes off as "half-heartedly". I like that they performed Snap because it's more mature, which imo fits the girls much better than the Cheeky vibe. The references to being a monster, the crown, Medusa and turning to stone, all reminded me of Dreamcatcher's OOTD and Shatter. Xiaoting really killed me this MAMA 😍 Monika and Bada were very forgettable tbh. The iffy camera work didn't help either. The blonde dancer was more impressive and memorable in just a few seconds. The final performance was nice but I thought the music volume was too low. Riize and ZB1 were ok for me. Nothing special. Niziu was nice and a welcome happy change, but I did think their choreo was a bit too low energy / too slow / too simple. Le Sserafim, yeah I loved the sound of the intro. Then I thought the start of EPaBBW was a bit empty with no dancers, but they kept increasing that, which ended up being a great performance. Treasure, I like that pause before the chorus dropped. Great energy, didn't like their final outfits. (G)I-dle, one of the most disappointing performances for me tbh. Only 1 song. The opening was very strong, but all the pauses killed all the energy. A lot of dancers but not utilised well and dressed in dumb pink hazmat suits. And the whole ending with the clumsy selfie was getting weird with the audience not knowing anymore when to applaud. Like, they ended in silence... 😬 Great ending by Seventeen. "Hopefully we covered everything". You did great 👍 The only thing missing is the reaction of Sooyoung (SNSD) when she saw the pink ocean 🥲 Fyi, Mnet/MAMA is getting criticized for getting more and more boygroup focused: - Twice as many boygroups as girlgroups performed - The distribution of awards is even more skewed towards boygroups - Most of the special effects (AR) were used for boygroups (hand out of the screen, flying saucer, etc) Interestingly, at the MMA almost the opposite happened.

First of all, congratulations to all of this year’s winners. and in particular New Jeans which has achieved incredible records, just like IVE last year. These 2 groups have just achieved the Daesang winning record that no GG had won in 12 years. I'm talking about MAMA but also MMA. for the performances I liked a lot of them it's one of my top 5 MAMA. - Youngji is not an Idol initially but I think she became one over time. she has done a lot of collaborations with idols this year alone with Seventeen, with Ive at their concerts, but also with several soloists. She also has many friends among idols and is often invited to shows with idols. very good collab Euncahe was incredible Treasure and Zihao we put the fuse - Kep1er for me is the most energetic GG, they have a very impressive power on stage. congratulations on their awards for best Asian girl group. one of the 3 best performances for me there is a good intro, a bit of acting, a good dance break, energy and an addictive song.- - big congratulations to the production, lighting, special effects, 3D or CGI, sets and accessories, everything was at the level of what we expect from a MAMA show. people who talk about the Grammy have never seen a MAMA show, the scale is much more grandiose. - the Endless night collab was magnificent, the piano performance was very pretty and the vocal performances were very beautiful. -Xikers very good performance very energetic also as a group we can see the joy they have to perform on such a prestigious stage. -Somi. what can I say, she presented the MAMA performed several times solo or in a group. she's a star I love these 2 songs, perfect to hype up the crowd and raise the temperature. she's so fucking PRETTY a true GODESS for techtonic it was her idea Somi loves trying things she tried the revival and play on the old school aspect. but I loved the song is really addictive I still listen to it quite often. and it's perfect for a big stage like MAMA. - dynamic duo are godfathers of Korean rap in the same way as Yoon Mirae or Tiger Jk, they are essential pioneers of rap. -Enhypen the performance is really cool and the CGI of the chapel is really original. Bite Me is also one of my favorite BG songs this year - TXT chasing that feeling is my favorite BG song this year. their performance is one of the 3 best with Kepl1er for me. - TVXQ what can I say, they are the bosses. sad to only see 2 of them I would have liked to see the 5 original members of the group reunited for their 20th anniversary. DG if you have the opportunity I beg to react to the song "one day one chance" from the holographic musical comedy by SM SCHOOL OF OZ. with Max Changbin, Key (Shinee), Seulgi (red velvet), Luna 'F(X), Suho and Xiumin (Exo) it's a vocal masterpiece. and watch the musical occasionally there are lots of SM star kameo like YOONA from SNSD and many others. This performance at MAMA is just TVXQ flexing their voices. -Riize I'm not yet familiar with the group I haven't listened to their songs yet but even if they seem very good unfortunately they were completely overshadowed by TVXQ the collab was collab but perhaps not wise to make Riize shine. as you said DG during your reaction to BTOB killing voice groups like BTOB or TVXQ who have a long career behind them seem more energetic and united than groups which were formed only a few years ago. -ATEEZ. one of the 3 best performance ties with (G)IDLE once again like for Kepl1er there is a good intro, acting, accessories, energy and a good dance break. congrats for they're awards as the best asian BG. -ELZ7UP I expected a lot from this performance which was sold to us during Queendom puzzle as being one of the prizes received by the winning members. but to be honest I was a little disappointed the girls were incredibly pretty I had a hard time getting choose the most beautiful of the evening between Xiaoting, Somi, Yeeun, Sakura, Nana, Minnie, Yuqi. vocally Hwiseo and Kei were incredible but the performance itself was very academic, no props, no big set, no dance break. - the Xiating, Hyunjin, Minnie, Bada and Monika collaboration. really great amazing collab. what can i said, insane dance skill, insane visual, insane visual, insane visual sorry i'am broken..... -Tokyo Dome 55000 places so a bit more because people were in VIP -Niziu cute; cute and cuteness overload. that ake to much time to debut them in Korea that why i don't like JYP management they debut to many GG in a very short time so now most of them struggle.but NIZIU did really great in japan and i love them to me it's my favorite JYP GG so much talent.

- Lesserafim incredible I love these girls honestly my favorite from 4th gen with IVE and (G)IDLE congratulations for their favorite dance performance awards. I predicted it when the MV for Eve, psyche and the bluebeard wife was released, frankly this song is top 5 for me this year among the GGs with QUEENCARD, I'AM, REASON and SUPER SHY. they are all so beautiful CHAEWON E and KKURA are incredible ZUHA and MANCHAE too and HYUNJIN commands the stage. -(G)IDLE At this point in the show I already had hot flashes but they finished me off. congratulations for their awards and the show they gave us, they got the crowd involved, the queencard rearrangement was cool, the outfits were cool, they were all magnificent, in short, a marvel. this show was really good even if I regret the absence of major groups that made their mark this year like STRAY KIDS, IVE or NEW JEANS if these groups had performed we would perhaps have had a MAMA top third.

fabrice maire

DG i think you can react on the missing groups of MAMA with they're MMA performance SKZ ,IVE and NEW JEANS got fabulous performance .

I can't believe that you watched 2 days of Mama in one sitting :) I watched Day2 live since there were almost no girl groups in day one. Ateez started the Day2 performances off so basically mnet figured out all of the good camera angles on Day1 and then chose to not use them for Day2 :) The most egregious camera shot was at the end with Seventeen where they cut to a camera that was supposed to be a closeup of the crowd but it was pointed directly in the staff's face. Watching live I noticed that every boy group including the rookies got 2 performances and all the girl groups only got 1. Looking at the length of the videos on youtube it seems like the girls were only allotted 5:30 minutes and all of the boys were 7-8 minutes. I totally get giving Ateez and Seventeen longer time slots as they earned it and delivered but I was very disappointed when even Gidle ended after 1 song. Rookie boy groups getting more time than senior girl groups like Gidle doesn't make sense to me. This reminds me of how Mnet try out all of their new shows on the girls and then give the guy version a bigger budget for the next season. Kepler The performance was really good I just wish that I liked the song. I'm not a fan of the part in the chorus where they sing the title. I always love when groups incorporate fight choreo. It takes me back to Dohwa in Queendom 1 Finale. Youngeun standing on those guys who slid apart to do the splits was wild. Yujin was lethal as always. EL7Z UP I was very glad that they did Snap instead of Cheeky. I do like Cheeky but generally stronger darker more powerful concepts work better for the award show stages. I probably would have died if they did Bad Blood too. I found it interesting that the completely redistributed the parts for Snap. I'm really hoping we get an OT7 version of it bad blood and last piece since they performed those at their concert in Japan on Spotify I loved the Yeoreum/Nana dance break and the chairography It's kinda sad that Yuki has to miss out on the last several cities of the PK tour but I'm glad that she got to perform at MAMA. CLC never got to perform at MAMA but now we have both Yujin and Yeeun. I'm so proud :) MAMA Super stage When Yunjin performed The Great Mermaid when she was introduced as the Siren I guessed that Xiaoting as Medusa must perform Snake and I wasn't disappointed. The part where they drag her across the stage and she slithers back and forth like a Snake was amazing. Monika and Bada where cool but a Chimeria is a 3 headed monster so I'm very confused why they didn't pick another SWF dancer or pick a different monster. Minnie singing Lion was incredible! I still love that song. I kinda wished after seeing her sing that Yunjin also sang part of the great mermaid but I understand that it's a dance performance first. I didn't like the song choice of when they came together but whatever the collab was still really cool. Le Sserafim I love Eve, Psyche, and Bluebeard's wife and I'm glad they performed it but this hip-hop remix is probably my least favorite of the dozen remixes of this song that exist. They looked great! Sakura's belt top thing was deadly and I laughed when the Mannequeen dancer did the leg lift with Kazuha. G-idle I was really disappointed that they only did 1 song. Also the crowd didn't seem very good at singing along. Maybe there was a big echo or something. The girls did a good job though. I enjoyed the strutting up the entire thrust stage. Boy Groups TVXQ was incredible as always I'm glad you finally got to see them perform Ateez award show performances are always amazing. I enjoyed the literal inception skit. I didn't realize at the time they performed a new song as I only casually follow them :) Seventeen now that's the way to close the show! When The8 came on the first time and you swore I thought you were mad at the mnet editors again but when his dance break started and it happened again I finally understood :) Young-ji is not an idol. She's a rapper, entertainer, and part time comedian :) As you can probably tell from my comments I didn't watch all 3 hours of this but good work on reacting to all of this in one sitting. If you choose to check out other award shows this season feel free to split it up into multiple parts across multiple days or cherry pick the groups you react to. I know you said you skipped some of the groups but from the length of this list I can't even tell who you left out :) Thank you for this special reaction and stay safe!

Marcel Wannieck

Daniel really did react to almost everything. Out of a total 24 different performances, he only left out 5: JUST B, &TEAM, JO1, INI and BOYNEXTDOOR

cata

thanks for this reaction, I loved it the performances were incredible, my favorites were the ones from enhypen and txt ps: I recommend that one day you can react to boynextdoor, it is a hybe group (from the subsidiary directed by zico) and they are really incredible, they debuted this year in May and they have only released 6 songs but they are impressive, apart from that they are involved in The creation of these songs, they really don't seem like a rookie group, they're really amazing <3

Andie

So so glad you discovered TVXQ before you reacted to MAMA! Can’t wait for more TVXQ reactions from you - as a fellow fan of Changmin’s insane micro-expressions, you need to check out their iconic live performance of “Humanoids” during their Nissan Stadium concert. They performed in the pouring rain for 3 hours in front of 75,000 people and Changmin’s smiles kept getting the audience to scream at key points, LOL: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/ULn9XJBSc6QjgZgC/?mibextid=wILeQC&startTimeMs=2000 (Because they started from the ground up in Japan with full on original albums + discography, they’re fluent in Japanese and have a different name and fandom just for Japan: Tohoshinki (group name) and Big East (fandom name))

eve_ss

Right!! Still the first and only Kpop group ever performed on Nissan Stadium! They're soooo big in JAPAN fr 💯🫶❤️

I’m like six months behind but when enhypen came out and you said “I love the suits!” I’m not sure if you know this but they had SO much hate on social media for these suits so I’m so glad you said something so positive about them
