Boombayah made them known but this won them the awards. Until now, this is the only kpop debut song that scored a Perfect All-Kill on its release (being #1 on all Korean music charts for a certain period of time). This song showcased what they can do—rap, sing, visuals, dance, plus a unique sound. Dancers have also commented that this is a very hard choreo (they have a dance practice video for this) since it is almost like an a capella, that there seems to be no beat to anchor your moves onto. Even the girls said that this is one of their hardest choreos. This is one of their best songs and I like this waaaaay better than Boombayah. There is an official acoustic version of this song. Hits different. You are not alone in thinking of the dark undertones, but more of the MV than the actual song. There is a theory that the MV is like they are inside a video game, being controlled. That’s why there are console controllers and a TV, and a lot of open spaces and different settings. You will also notice that they glitch. They are in open and empty spaces wandering, seeming lost, and they keep going in circles (also a lot of circular shapes and formations). Like they are in an open world game. But you will notice that the globe they are sitting on will turn pink—Blackpink world domination. Going into the theory will be so lengthy so I will stop it here. Fun facts: - Jisoo was the one whistling. - This almost didn’t made it as a debut song because it sounded so different from your usual kpop—as Teddy said, “it sounded empty.” - The title of their show Blackpink 24/365 indeed came from this song.

Let me simplify this: The girls are hot and know it. They know this guy has to want them, but, this is Korea - girls don't make the first move. This song and As If It's You're Last are, basically, "I want you, you want me, what are we wasting time for?" And, like others have said, this is one of my favorites because it's so different. It's the only BP video with CG as well. I'm surprised that you didn't notice the world that they were sitting on turning pink towards the end, like BP is taking over the whole world. I keep hoping that they'll dive back into this more experimental pool.

I must've missed it because I got caught up with my "witch"/mystical theory, the song on its own is pretty straightforward but the video threw me off completely

Yeah it's definitely the MV, the actual song was pretty straightforward. I've seen a few theories and now the one you added is so different but yet still make sense as the other ones, that's crazy lol! Appreciate the fun facts too! 🙏
