So, here's the update on the eliminated trainees from this episode: #59: Nanako Ikumi returned to AKB48 and even choreographed the song Fortune Cherry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJd5LiCt6_g She graduated from AKB48 in May 2019 and has just been occasionally posting on Instagram since then: https://www.instagram.com/ikumin193_888 #60: Hwang Soyeon left her original label and signed with MNH (Chungha's label back then) in August 2018. However, by April 2021 she had left MNH again since she was seen in a dance video of a group called HOWZ. They never ended up debuting. Soyeon's Instagram shows her working as a backup dancer on IU's world tour right now: https://www.instagram.com/sy_soluvely (which means, I'll technically see her in a month) and from her bio it also looks like she might be attending some kind of drama school. #61: Shin Suhyun left her label and signed with Sublime Artist Agency as an actress. She made her acting debut in November 2019 in the drama “Woman of 9.9 Billion”. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/xinsooo #62: Kang Damin hopped around a few companies before eventually ending up at Big Mountain Entertainment where she would debut in October 2022 as a member of Queenz Eye with the debut song Yummy Yummy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0pGnRX1mb8 #63: Mogi Shinobu returned to AKB48 where she continued to be active until her graduation in January of this year. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_mogi_shinobu_ #64: Oda Erina returned to AKB48 until her graduation just about a month ago. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/odenchannn #65: Yoon Eunbin has completely left the entertainment industry. Last year she graduated from Sejeong High School with a degree in Food Services and Culinary Arts. #66: Choi Yeonsoo is working as a model: https://www.instagram.com/ysdp0715 And she also opened a Youtube channel for vlogs: https://www.youtube.com/@eunsuyeonsoo #67: Matsuoka Natsumi returned to HKT48 where she would continue as the captain of Team H until she graduated in September 2022. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/natsustagram_hkt #68: Park Chanju was teased to debut in a group with Lee Chaejeong and Park Minji in 2019. However, that debut fell through and she terminated her contract with her company. She got married in 2022 and gave birth to a son about one year ago. It's pretty safe to assume that she has left the entertainment industry. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chan_xuuu #69: Park Jinny made her debut as a member of SECRET NUMBER in May 2020. And I'm gonna take this opportunity to plug my favourite song of theirs, Got That Boom! And you haven't heard it yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljdwsoYTq7I Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/impinkprincessjinny #70: Kim Dayeon hopped around a few companies until she ended up at Jellyfish Entertainment (where Sejeong is as well). She participated in Girls Planet 999 and you know the rest 😄 #71: Hasegawa Rena graduated from NGT48 in May 2019. But the exact reason for this is quite complicated. I'm gonna try my best to summarize. Basically: In December 2018 NGT48 member Yamaguchi Maho was assaulted by two men who entered her apartment. It was alleged that her adress was leaked by other members of the group. She brought up the issue to the group's management but was apparently largely ignored until she made it public in a livestream in January 2019. Well, management forced her to apologize for making those allegations and Hasegawa Rena was having none of it. She removed the NGT48 tag from all her socials and when Yamaguchi Maho left the group, Rena joined in leaving with her in solidarity. This is a gross oversimplification of this case. There's a lot more to it and you can read up on it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_of_Maho_Yamaguchi Rena has since pursued a career in voice acting. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbg_rena0315 #72: Cho Ahyeong signed with FNC Entertainment and participated in the survival show CAP-TEEN in 2020, where she ranked 4th. This didn't net her a win though because only first place got a contract to debut as a soloist. These days Ahyeong only posts occasionally on her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bunohv #73: Lee Seunghyeon was once slated to debut in WM's new girl group Ggumnamu (which also included Lee Chaeyeon). However, since everyone except Lee Chaeyeon left WM in 2021, they never debuted. Seunghyeon herself would quickly find a new home, though, and debuted in January 2022 as a member of H1-KEY, now going by the stage name Riina. You would mostly know her from Queendom Puzzle. Their debut song is Athletic Girl and let's just say, it absolutely dominated my life at the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imUUYMi2FXw #74: Kato Yuuka returned to NMB48 until her graduation in August 2023. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uuka_nmb #75: Kim Dahye's current status is unknown. #76: Imada Mina returned to AKB48 until her graduation in April 2022, after which she went to Korea to study abroad. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_minaimd.j_ #77: Nagano Serika returned to AKB48 where she continues to be active to this day. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iroziro_serika #78: Hong Yeji hopped around a few companies before eventually shifting careers towards acting. In May 2021 she was cast for the lead role in the film 2037, which released in June 2022. This marks her offical debut as an actress. #79: Lee Chaejeong had this group that never debuted with Park Minji and Park Chanju as I already mentioned above. Chaejeong would eventually make her debut when she joined ELRIS in February 2020 as a new member for their comeback Jackpot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPAIlZM1VUU And then their company Hunus Entertainment continued to not do shit with Elris for almost two years. Until they finally transferred over to IOK Company at the end of 2021. They rebranded to ALICE and came back with new music in October 2022. However, this wouldn't really last long. ALICE only got one more comeback in April 2023 and then it got silent around them again. Just about a month ago, ALICE member Sohee announced her retirement from the entertainment industry and that she would be getting married to a non-celebrity businessman. Here's the thing: as soon as she posted that letter, we all knew that ALICE was done for. Sohee was the most popular member and it's not even close. She has three times the Instagram followers as all of the six other members plus the group account COMBINED. Sohee hard carried the popularity of the group. And I get it, she is STUPIDLY attractive. But it still wasn't enough for her and her group to really get any kind of breakthrough. Sohee had everything she needed to be the next It Girl but luck just wasn't on her side. After 7 years of trying, she was probably just tired of it and I can't blame her. Without Sohee, ALICE could not survive at all. And it didn't take too long for the other four original members to also announce their contracts ending. As for Chaejeong, she was one of the two new members who joined later in 2020. Those two are technically still in the group but let's be real, ALICE is effectively disbanded. It remains to be seen what Chaejeong does going forward. In any case, here's her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chaerishxx #80: Park Jieun made her debut as the oldest member of PURPLE KISS, starting with the group's first predebut song My Heart Skip a Beat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV9yAHvHfrc (and I'll be honest, when that song came out, I thought Purple Kiss would be much closer in sound to Dreamcatcher than they ultimately ended up being) Jieun left Purple Kiss in November 2022 after their Nerdy comeback. She was diagnosed with anxiety and poor physical condition and needed rest. She remains signed with RBW but isn't active at this time. #81: Ichikawa Manami returned to AKB48 until her graduation in August 2023. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/0826manami #82: Alex Christine made her official debut as AleXa in October 2019 with the song Bomb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OjCMR8DGLg You know, it's kinda funny how so far you've only seen her slower stuff when in fact she's more known for high energy songs with strong choreographies and a scifi concept. It's very cyberpunk. You really ought to check out Revolution one of these days! Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alexa_zbofficial #83: Kurihara Sae returned to HKT48 where she continues to be active to this day. She has the center position in the song Otona Ressha wa Doko wo Hashitteru no ka?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLONminDxsQ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hkt48_saekurihara #84: Cho Yeongin was in the lineup for WM's group Ggumnamu but as I already mentioned, almost everyone ended up leaving the company, including Yeongin. Nothing else is known about her beyond that. #85: Asai Yuka returned to SKE48 where she continues to be active to this day. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yuka1110_ #86: Ahn Yewon has been focusing on her modelling career under the stage name Go Yijin: https://www.instagram.com/goyijin_ She also opened a Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@goyijin #87: Naiki Kokoro returned to NMB48 until her graduation in August 2019. After that she started training and working as a musical actress. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cocoro_naiki/ #88: Kim Yubin made her debut in November 2020 as a member of Bling Bling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzUY4Kzh8PA Unfortunately, they quickly disbanded, only ever getting one comeback in May 2021. Yubin herself stayed signed to her company as an actress. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/i_you_bin #89: Cho Sarang's current status is unknown. #90: Choi Soeun made her acting debut in 2022, starring in the daily drama The Love in Your Eyes. #91: Shinozaki Ayana returned to AKB48 until her graduation in February of this year. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ayana.s_official #92: Won Seoyeon seemingly has been focusing on her studies of Vocal Arts at Howon University. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/seoyo_me left the show: Tanaka Miku returned to HKT48 until her graduation in December 2023. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mikumonmon_48 left the show: Tsukiashi Amane returned to HKT48 until her graduation in March 2020. In April 2022 she debuted in a new Jpop group called Fruits Zipper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQUo3vITjgY Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/am1026_official left the show: Umeyama Cocona returned to NMB48 until her graduation in April 2022. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cocona_umeyama left the show: Uemura Azusa withdrew from NMB48 in December 2018. She did it so suddenly that she didn't get a proper graduation. Apparently she wanted to pursue a dream of being a full time Youtuber. Well, going by the comments and the dislike ratio on her channel, plus the fact that she only ever uploaded six videos in five years, it hasn't really worked out that well: https://www.youtube.com/@nyanazu_o2o4 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nyanazu_o2o4

Have to be honest, I always struggle to get through these ranking episodes. I already know the final line-up, so there's not much suspense for me. This one was kind of fun though, the little segments in between were very entertaining, so good job Mnet (you have no idea how much I hate saying this, but I have to give credit where it's due. But honestly I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying this. This is my first time watching PD48, and I always assumed it would be much more dramatic and 'evil edited' than it actually is. It seems to me that Mnet really started pushing the drama after the rigging was exposed, like Queendom 2 + Puzzle and GP999 were basically unbearable (I quit watching GP999 halfway through, and both of those Queendom seasons felt like an absolute slog.) However these shows are also kind of sad in retrospect. All of these trainees, for so many of them Produce ends up being the high-point in their career. Like Haeyoon's group just disbanded and Juri left Rocket Punch, and others just don't end up really doing anything after the show. On a brighter note, it is actually kind of fun. At 1.25 speed, the talking segments don't feel that rushed, but whenever they cut to a few seconds of performance you really notice how much faster it is lol I never really checked out IZ*One much, so I'm looking forward to the spotlight! Should be fun!
