Howdy, everyone! Last Tuesday night we held our first Official Defunctland Meeting of 2022. Here are the minutes of record for your review.

WELCOME - 10:00PM

Around 10pm everyone started to gather in the discord Meeting rooms to say hello and express birthday wishes to Corvyn.  Matthew Serrano was in attendance and talked mysteriously about a few projects he was working on including the upcoming Epcot Intermission.  He also noted that he was going to be coming to Orlando for a couple of Disney weddings and as part of a trip in which his gf (@bree_kish) will model wedding dresses in front of Cinderella Castle.

We also talked a little about some of the accomplishments of the channel in 2021 including debuting the fist attraction of Defunctland VR and surpassing one million subscribers.  Charityland also raised $67,650 for Give Kids the World in December by broadcasting the first 24-Hour Charityland Stream.

During Welcome, Ellie also mentioned that she attempted a Handwich for Thanksgiving. And that the result was “not half bad”

FASTPASS TO FASTPASS 10:10PM

After that, we talked about the feature-length Fastpass video which surpassed 6 million views on Youtube shortly before the meeting. It’s presently the second-highest viewed video on the Defunctland channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yjZpBq1XBE) and creeping up quickly on “Defunctland: The History of the Nickelodeon Hotel”.  Don’t forget to watch the Nick Hotel Video to keep it in the lead (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CN9HpYrjeM).

As we chatted about FastPass, we listened to music from the Fastpass documentary soundtrack album “Lines: Music for Waiting in Queues or Learning About Them” by Kevin Perjurer. (Apple Music: https://t.co/Vh7SbcgQjm, Spotify: https://t.co/bZb8d3W7Jm, Bandcamp: https://defunctland.bandcamp.com/album/lines) Kevin noted that he adapted selections from the documentary score to create the 12 track album.  He also mentioned a little about how quickly he wrote the original score for the documentary on the piano in his home.

Kevin noted that he started working on the Fastpass script in August and it was released before Thanksgiving in November. When he started it, he didn’t know it was going to be a feature but instead planned on it being a short video.  Specialbunny asked if Kevin would ever do another long-form video like Fastpass and he said that he is planning a feature-length “Deal or No Deal” documentary for later this year.

Kevin was asked if Bruce Laval saw the Fastpass documentary, and said that he showed the full documentary to Laval before it was released.  He said Laval seemed to enjoy it and that he caught some errors which Kevin revised.

Specialbunny asked, “Was there anything that you learned from your interview with the inventor of FastPass that didn't make it into the video?” and Kevin said he didn’t even touch on the concept of reverse balking in which people see that a line is so long that they want to join it thinking it must be good. Another example of false demand.

Kevin also talked about some of the criticisms he received on the documentary including one insisting that he used the word “utilize” too many times. The critic insisted  Kevin “CTRL-F” to see how many times the word appeared in the documentary script. When asked in meeting chat how many times it appeared, Kevin said 16. The critic also had an objectively incorrect definition of the word utilize, insisting that something can only be “utilized” in cases where it is being used outside of its intended use. An understanding which is contradicted by more accepted definitions of the word https://www.dictionary.com/browse/utilize

ASK KEVIN SOMETHING - 10:25PM(ish)

Birthday boy Corvyn kicked off the “Ask Kevin Something” portion of the evening with the question “Remember when we had a docket?” We did remember. Also, it since “Fastpass to Fastpass” ran long with questions about Fastpass, it was already time to move on to the next part of the docket.

IN MEMORIAM

Next, we took a look at some attractions that closed for good in 2021, including the Australian attraction “Buzz Saw” at Dreamworld. The ride opened on September 17, 2011 and became defunct on August 31, 2021.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb7WS1SsqC4

Then we remembered the Canobie Lake Park “Canobie Corkscrew” which closed in 2021 and first operated at “Old Chicago” in 1975 as the “Chicago Loop”. The ride was sold after that park closed in 1980  and started running at Canobie park in 1987.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-JNL948hcY  We also played a little Cat Stevens while we watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxjTC0bmKls and Kevin reminded everyone that he also used the song “Father and Son” at the end of the Son of Beast episode https://youtu.be/Q8NMCyvaimY?t=803

After that, we got to experience both the standing and sitting loop versions of the coaster Momonga thanks to Theme Park Review video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnw1GlN4W7g .  Momonga opened in 1979 as a sit-down coaster at Yomiuriland in Inagi, Tokyo Japan.  In 1982, they added standup trains and operated with both standup and sit-down options ever since. On September 20th, 2021 after 42 years of operation, the coaster made its final run with a stand-up train full of fans who won a lottery to be the last to ride the coaster.

Then we watched the demolition of Cedar Point’s “Wicked Twister” https://youtu.be/OUFnS1bsWe4?t=65 . An inverted coaster that ran from May 2002 to September 6th, 2021.  For nearly all of its life, “Wicked Twister” was a world record holder as the tallest and fasted inverted coaster, until the opening of “Legendary Twin Dragon” at Chongqing Sunac Land in China on February 3rd, 2021.

The Blue Man Group Theater at Universal Studios Orlando City Walk also became defunct in February of 2021. The show had operated since 2007 when it originally opened with sponsorship from Sharp Aquos.  While Blue Man Group still perform in Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, and Boston, the Orlando show did feature some routines and components not seen anywhere else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEqmHs-sRaQ

“Wahoo Run” at Adventure Island in Tampa, Florida also closed for the final time in 2021.  Having opened in 2000, the 600-foot-long ProSide Mammoth River was mostly enclosed and let riders go down on three-person rafts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFQvHfXBBtI All is not completely lost as the coaster is planned to re-open in 2022 as “Wahoo Remix” which will feature LED lights and synchronized sound elements in the former enclosed dark sections.

“A Day in the Park with Barney”, which had been at Universal Studios Florida since July 11th, 1995 closed on February 3rd, 2021. The attraction was originally built on the former site of the Bates Motel set and also featured “Barney’s Backyard” play area.  The live show itself featured songs from the show and also had a Christmas-themed variation.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bouqwpEyzE

CORVYN’S BIRTHDAY 10:50PM

After that, we celebrated Corvyn’s birthday with birthday wishes from Charles Entertainment Cheese (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyIu78eJ0jU), Mickey Mouse (https://youtu.be/Z2MPHVy-G5A), Putt Putt, Celine Dion, and Fūd Wrapper himself, Tone Loc. Happy Birthday, Corvyn.  We hope you had a great one.

GOODNIGHT 11:00PM

As 11PM came around, we closed out the meeting and noted that we were going to play ShapeLand at Defunctland Game Night on Thursday.

DEFUNCTLAND GAME NIGHT: SHAPELAND

For Thursday’s Defunctland Game Night, we went to ShapeLand.  Much like a real amusement park, the intent of the game was to have fun and we took turns building out the ShapeLand amusement park in the game created by Bryan Sutton (@derrigible) as an entry for the Charityland talent show (https://derrigible.itch.io/shapeland). After playing the game for a bit and eventually making over $10,000 in daily income, the group was asked Trivia questions for FastPoints which they could use to ride the various attractions of ShapeLand.

By the end of the game, we were able to ride seven of the ten attractions, including Circle, Oval, Rectangle, Square, Trapezoid, Triangle, and the Octagon (twice).  While we didn’t get to ride Heptagon, Hexagon, Pentagon, or the Octagon 39 times during the game a fun time was had and a daily high score was set at $26,650.
