Not as clever an idea as Bakeru-kun, a manga by Fujiko Fujio, the creator of Doraemon. In that series a boy gets a collection of dolls that allow him to transform into a full grown version of the doll, with his own body turning into a small soulless doll. Interestingly, he often possesses two bodies at once, even 5 bodies at once, although he has trouble moving them independently. Something to look into.
