Hey,

Just figured I'd post a quick update. The VR scene is rendering.

I've opted to go for 7260x3630 as the resolution. It will obviously take quite a while to render, but I feel it's worth the extra quality, considering the video is not that long. I estimate roughly a month of rendering time, assuming I can keep it on at all the times when I'm not working on the work PC.

I uploaded a couple images as a preview to what to expect (no post processing yet). Note that this isn't exactly optimized for VR, and will use roughly the same cuts as the regular version. Some minor adjustments have been made to angles, to accommodate VR, and of course, some animation tweaks, for weird stuff that appeared outside of the camera, with the wider field of view. There's a couple older tests, which are closer to what the final will look like.

Test renders can be found in the gallery folder in:  imagetier > minianims > Fun with teach > VR, As usual this can be accessed through discord!

I'll likely fade out the background room in some way in post, since to be honest, the empty room doesn't look all that great, as it was never meant to be viewed outside of the small peeks in the regular video. Not to mention the lights, which would have required tweaking, for the BG to look decent, but I didn't want to touch the lights, since they work fine for the important stuff. So expect something like a white void, except for the immediate vicinity around Lucy. But we'll see what I come up with for the final.

I'll start working on the character updates etc. soon. I've scheduled the entirety of February for that, for now.

If everything goes well with the Renders, the VR version of FWT should be out around the end half of February.

As always, I hope you have a nice day!

have you considered using a render farm?

If it was simple, and didn't come with any additional issues (like scene incompatibility due to version/plugins used etc.), I might consider it, despite the relatively high costs. But in general, I'd rather put that money into new hardware. And I'm not sure if these services have any content limitations, I doubt it but you never know. In short: I don't think it's worth the effort, potential complications, nor cost. I don't really see the large render times as an issue. They're really not a bottleneck most of the time. Usually I have some work that can be done while the renders are happening. If I don't and I'm in a hurry, then I buy an additional Maya license for a month, so I can work on my other PC, which I did for a couple mounts for Ch2pt1 during render prep. The main inconvenience from long rendertimes, is that I need to sleep while the GPU fans are blowing at high speeds. But you get used to it in a few days after rendering.
