Free Body Diagrams - Tension, Friction, Inclined Planes, & Net Force

This physics / mechanics video tutorial focuses on drawing free body diagrams. It explains how to identify forces such as the tension in a rope, static friction, kinetic friction, normal force, weight force, and applied force. It explains how to break up the tension force into its components if an angle is provided. In addition, it discusses how to calculate the net force on an object using newton's 2nd law and how to determine the acceleration of the object using that information. It also contain examples of finding the final speed of a block down an inclined plane as well as other kinematic problems relating to forces and acceleration. It covers the hanging mass problem and the block on an incline. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems. It's full of formulas and equations.

At 1:24:28, would it not be a mass of 20kg instead of 10 for the normal force calculations? Or how does it become 10kg if not?

aj filly

The answer I got was m(20)(a)=101N so the a=5.05m/s^2

Uzair Naseer

he changed it from 20 to 10. But if he kept it at 20 your answer would have been correct

In 30:38 we have the x component of w why did we ignore it?

the mass at 1:24:38 is 20kg, not 10. Correct me if i made a mistake

All videos are very helpful and clear! I would like to watch all of your videos for my physics class, only one thing is if they have a sequence number before the title,it will be a saver when I lost in the similar titles list and trying to go on.
