I wished I would have known about these in my Dayhike Survival Kit (DSK) video series. These are nearly ideal. Never mind the strange names and their focus on hunting or commercial butchering.

These are ultra lightweight and stainless fixed blade knives that pack a lot of performance (testing video shown!). The CS "Scalper Slock Master" and "Commercial Series Wester Hunter" are very inexpensive. Remember when you integrate an item in your kits, it's a write-off and stays there forever, always ready for emergency use. Therefore their prices are ideal.

I can deal with the 4116 Krupp steel choice (discussed).  Perfect lightweight plastic sheaths are included; they won't hold moisture and are secure.  Highly recommended additions to your DSK/USK/BOK builds...I'm using them now for all my DSKs.

I like the red handle. If its going in a kit I like items to be high viz. I've gotten over tacticool long ago and prefer something I can find easily in a bag or when the light sucks.

I carry a kershaw hatchet when back packing. Full size axe when camping. Might integrate a folding saw in the future. Haven’t done much battoning. But I’m sure I’ll need to at some point, so I need to pick up some kind of blade for that. This may be just the knife, since I’m already carrying a hatchet. Just leave my main tactical folder at home and replace it with this on the trail
