Chances are you've gone out unprepared. Lots of people do. Then something unexpected happens like bad weather, getting lost, an injury, an animal attack, a fall, a bad fall, or the like. Then your "day trip" turns into a survival situation. And Murphy's Law says this will all happen when you have no cell phone contact.

So we're going to go prepared with a SAWC-focused Nutnfancy Survival Kit! Much philosophy ensues in this video series because people will get confused exactly what this kits is supposed to do for us. Some take the silly caveman approach and go out unprepared as possible to prove their manhood. Others integrate stupid, heavy stuff they'd never really carry. We'll be a bit smarter here while covering critical bases.

As my story telling and philosophy interweaves in the series, I will cover each item in the Dayhike Survival Kit (DSK) . My kit has changed over time as new technology produces lighter, more capable survival items. We'll cover Signaling, Shelter, Fire, Tools, Lighting, and more. The Nutnfancy FAK concept is different and is covered in the vids below btw and in future updates.

Our goal here isn't to spend more time with limited supplies in the wilderness. You can do that some other time (like many YouTubers do). Instead we will accept the discomfort of a survival situation, get our priorities organized, take care of immediate needs, and focus on summoning help to get back home.

So here's another fun and informative WILDERNESS SYSTEMS PHILOSOPHY VIDEO SERIES only made possible by Elite TNP Donors that make this work worthwhile for me!

I love this content. I’d probably throw a couple tube lures in my fishing kit.

I totally agree. Another youtuber I watch called Survival Russia has similar ideas. I find it shocking how many survival kits from YouTubers lack things like stoves or proper food...."oh I'll catch watch I need" or "I put a couple of trail bars in there I'll be ok" yeah you know when you never want to have to depend on your self over-inflated food finding skills? In a survival situation. Your most important survival tool is your brain. The last thing you need as a distraction in that situation is hunger and thirst. Rice or buckwheat, some dehydrated soup mix, and some kind of shelf-stable salty protein are always in my kit now. Yeah pack some trail bars in case water is an issue but damn its handy. Yeah my kits a bit heavier now than it used to but I have way more peace of mind. Now I only wish I had a reason to use it. I don't get out much anymore now that I'm disabled. Also the emergency system is a great idea. Until health issues stopped my Dad's and my own outdoor adventures recently we shared the monthly cost of one. We were either going together or not going at the same time so if you can find someone to share the cost with its great. I don't know if I'd go in the bush without one now cause they can also be great devices to let your loved ones know that you are OK out there.
