We buck the 20 mph crosswind and pressed on with 715 yd, -6º down angle shooting with the Palmetto .224 Valkyrie again.  This was day two of TNP's "Operation Valkyrie" and a learning experience for both Jardine and I.  We simply wanted to find out what the cartridge can do in this challenging terrain.  It fits in a standard size AR mag (even with 88 gr bullets), in a lightweight rifle, and some loads, as discussed here, represent excellent value for true 1000 yd performance.

Plenty of actual setup and shooting is shown and Jardine and I have our usual banter.  A Nutnfancy built SPR AR15 with Odinworks 18" makes an appearance to square off with the Valkyrie.  Can this SPR reach out reliably to 715 yds with this crosswind?  You might be impressed with its 77 grain performance here...we were.  But there is a catch and we discuss it.

We shuttle the long distance in the Yamaha Wolverine X4 to check/setup targets.
We enjoy our time together as friends and realize this experience is special.  Again in Op V I'll show a lot of the behind the scenes b. it's fun and it shows the immense amount of work it takes to do this.  The X4 getting pretty beat up these days hauling steel, ammo, us, and guns but that's its job and we love having it for scouting and target runs.

Out of nowhere the F35s Lightning IIs from Hill AFB show up for several high speed passes right over us!  Jardine swears he sees a TNP sticker on one of them.  So in this last long range session in Op V you'll see lots of long range shooting, epic scenery, the freedom of the beautiful American West [still!], and jet passes...life was good this day.

Somewhere along the way a potential target thief shows up and we rant about having to worry about such a thing is this remote location!  In the end we'll wrap up our thoughts on the caliber, the centerpiece for this exclusive and diverse TNP shooting Operation!

Hey Nutn, long time yet subscriber, brand new Patreon sub. I subbed now because I see you’re getting back to adventure stuff and I’m really interested in the .224 Valkyrie. I think if you played with it a bit and found an 88 grainer that would shoot accurately it would be a night and day difference and it would outshine the .223 more. If I was going to shoot it to 77 grain, I’d just use my accurized mini-14, I much prefer the way it feels to shoot a mini-14 anyway. But I’m setting up a 1000yd range and think 88 gr and above in .224 valk will be a very fun load to reload and push to the limits. Also going with a CMMG with at least a 24” barrel. anyway, very entertaining and worth every penny, thanks!
