Whoever says I was forcing a monthly subscription to use the mods is totally wrong and they did not even bother to read the posts.

I have stated in every post since I first added DRM that no subscribers will be affected, you can literally cancel subscription and wait a year then pass the authentication from another computer to get the token with your account whose subscription has expired for one year by then, it's written in every posts on patreon since I added it.

DRM is obviously bad for reputation since a lot of people keep demonizing what I did.

When implemented well this could've been a good thing for subscribers, since with DRM I can stop restricting download acceess with roles.

And it also allows for free updates for former subscribers.

For example if a mod still fails after a game update despite the memory signature I used, I can simply update it and release it, and people who subscribed for only one month for this mod back when the game was released, can now get the update I release for free without having to resub, but people who didn't subscribe still can't use it even if they can download it.

It's literally a win-win, only loser is pirates. But since all the hypocrite have to go againist me while still finding every way they can to use my mods, I'll continue to make it harder for them.

I am about to move on from Starfield to next game, I'll continue this as a service no matter what they said.

If they don't like it, they don't have to buy it.

Too many people feel they are entitled to everything for free. Its not wrong or immoral to want to get paid for the work we do. I don't even use your mod but subscribed because I want to support the work of people like you.

FL1NTZ

DRM is definitely not popular and I'm one that will always be against it. However, there isn't anyone being forced to partake in your Patreon and I think it's warranted for you to charge for the work you put into these mods. The people that don't like it are those that don't have the capability to process words in a reasonable and effective way. Those are the ones that you don't need to waste energy on. Keep on keeping on man.

Anonymous

I thought the download links get hidden on discord once you're not subbed?

Phil

Your work deserve to be paid. It allow me to enjoy all potential of my graphic card RTX4070. As Bethesda doesen't provide DLSS thank you for your work. I'm proud to support you with money. Continue like that.

Liquid Wolf

Just subscribed to say keep doing what you are doing. You are good at it, so don’t worry about the negativity out there. If it starts to be overwhelming, remember you only have to meet your own expectations. Step away from the comments and criticism and go have fun. That’s why you did this in the first place - the fun.

Anonymous

You're literally doing the work that developers should have done already. You deserve to be paid and idiots who can't bother reading details before making crazy accusations don't deserve your work.

Anonymous

I don't mind paying, but there hasn't been an update in a while and it's still causing a lot of crashes during fast travel.

Anonymous

There has been updates every few days on discord?

Anonymous

Yeah, but when you are not subscriber you do not have acces to download channel, so how someone who unsubscribed can access new updates to mods?

Anonymous

Unsubbed

PureDark

Actually that's what the authentication is for, so that I can allow downloads for people subscribed before, so that you can get the updates for the mods you want.

Anonymous

shut up lol

Honestly i find it amazing how people are willing to spend 300-400+ dollars on a 4000 gpu and when it comes to spending 5 dollars for a mod to utilize some of those features people go "OH MY GOD THE NERVE!" I understand frustration from people but its directed wrong by being directed at you mate. If anything this is on Bethesda and Nvidia for not accurately supporting their users with features they have advertised. I will likely pop in and out of being subbed mostly since the games you generally do this for are rarely games i play. But i support the decision for actually putting it behind patreon as you deserve to get payed for the work you do.

Anonymous

this is the dumbest take I have read today. I have a 4090 that I have worked my ass off to pay and I still pirate the freaking game because I do not think it is worth the money. This is my opinion and usually it only applies to me and my way of doing things. I gladly paid the $5 because I think it was a worth investment but you should not HAVE to pay to get it. PureDark and nobody is entitled to get paid for a MOD (IP that allready exists in a different form somewhere else) they implement on a game they do not own. Subscribers chose to do so out of their own volition and should be able to do so through donations, not a paywall. You are not entitled to make money from a game you do not own using DLSS/XESS/FSR or whatever that you also do not own. You do this for the love of the game and the love of improving a broken ass game, and if you make money from donations, that is great. Making Mods is not a JOB.

Anonymous

I unsubscribed, not because I had a problem with the DRM, but because trying to make DRM sound like a good thing as the consumer is just distasteful. DRM is already a stupid idea that only hurts honest customers, but saying its a win for me feels like a slap in the face.

Anonymous

Thank you for the job and the communication ^^. You're awesome for doing what Bethesda will never do.

PureDark

Well I wouldn't be able to distribute free updates for people only subscribed for one mod without leaking it for everyone else if not for an authentication. It's nothing different than just using the discord roles or patreon post access, but instead it's on the mod side so that I can allow everyone to download the updates but only people who had the access can use it.

Anonymous

Quick, lets cancel, Bethesda are adding support for DLSS :P

Anonymous

Stop blowing up my inbox with your bitch posts damn

Anyone saying this is okay or in any way justified is far too ignorant to realize their own stupidity. People are not okay with this because of the precedent it sets for modding in the future, not just because this loser decides he's entitled to get paid for modding a product that he didn't even create. I'll be joining the unsub wagon and will happily re-sub if Pure decides to walk this back and apologize. Modding should be free for the community as you are not entitled to get paid for modifying a game you did not create just like how a streamer is not entitled to a paycheck just because they decide to stream. To clarify I have no issue with someone requesting donations for their work, however actively going out of your way to force people to pay for your work is purely destructive and will only lead to all mods being pay-walled in the future.

As much as I respect your work here, I have to disagree. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure people would have been happy to support you regardless. This DRM will stop many of them to do so because it feels wrong. I did pay for it myself because I think it's good to support, but keep in mind that there is a free DLSS-G mod out there (It's not as stable mind you, but still). So there is another guy out there, not even owning a 40 series GPU himself, and he's working on this for free. You do you, but I think a link for your Patreon or Ko-Fi link would have been enough. Honestly, I don't understand how you didn't see the shit storm coming (unless you knew but didn't care because money...). I can understand where you're coming from and from your perspective, it's probably only fair to get money for the work you put into this, but it's also a bit slimy considering how things have been in the modding community for years. Again, you do you. There will always be people like me who can afford $5 to enjoy a mod but not everyone can (yes you can own a 40 series GPU and still being poor but that's another story). I don't know man, just respect yourself. Money is great sure but I'm sure you would've got more money without DRM, just because people would have been happy to support. Now many of them won't. Anyway, that was my rant. Thank you for your work anyway and best of luck for the future. PS: English isn't my native language so if I don't make sense, well, sucks to be me (and you)

I cancelled my subscription renewal as soon as you added the DRM. I was happy to support you, but once you decided to force things you lost that support. I wont be back when my sub expires.

PureDark

That's really where the most confusion of mine comes from. I don't know maybe it's a culture thing, from my understanding it's only fair to be paid for the job one has done and for one's skill, cuz that's how any man makes a living, and donation is shameful because it's like asking for mercy. But maybe many people would still like mods to be donation-based rather than just paying.

Maestro298

Just heard about last anti crack system, people are just crying right now for cracking your mod lmao. Imagine crying because you are punished for doing something illegal, like stealing other work.

Anonymous

People expect things for free, I believe you should get paid for your work! Don't pay too much attention to those entitled people that want things for free.

Homer of Simpsonia

I am unsubbing. I'll continue doing so no matter what you say if you're using DRM.

Anonymous

I just subbed to spite the reddit choosingbeggars and I don't even have an nvidia card. keep up the great work!

Anonymous

Well, I’m undoing Grateful_Users work because I don’t want my PC running mods that has traps left for pirates, that could potentially trip for me.

Nicholas Rush

Trying to combat pirates will have the opposite effect, increasing competition. That's just how it works whenever any kind of DRM is involved. Stay humble, and good luck.

PureDark

I know, I've decided to leave them aside and never care about them anymore. But IGN decided to publish an article. I was interviewed like 20 days ago back when I was angry, but then I've long decided to give up on fighting back cuz it ain't worth it. I totally forgot about IGN for 20 days, now they just brought me more unwanted attention.

PureDark

Read my recent statement, it was a long time ago and was only anger words, I've long decided not to do it. I don't know why IGN took this long to post something that's ages old and outdated.

Emi

Damn journalists. DRM or not, you're still the amazing PureDark. Keep up the great work!

Anonymous

Never would have even known you existed if it hadn't been for the choosingbeggars losing their minds about something that is frankly none of their business.

Anonymous

First of all great job on the mods, seems to work rather well and was easy to set up. I understand your thought process with the DRM, but in the end, like you have concluded yourself, it's not worth it. It's never worth it. - Vast majority of those who pirate either won't or can't pay. DRM won't change that. - Crafting the DRM is extra work for you. - Cracking the DRM is extra work for pirates. But, there's a lot more of them than there are of you. - DRM hits your reputation, lowering your potential revenue. Gamers who would apply mods are specially sensitive to it. Reputation affects revenue a lot more than piracy. Due to the points above, even though you had great intentions, it's more work, more stress, less revenue, so it's actually a lose-lose. I would also suggest you consider open-source with creative commons type license. Let the many busy themselves with improving upon your work, instead of cracking it. That's the true win-win.

Anonymous

Not only that but it turn off some people that were willing to pay to begin with.

Anonymous

Thanks a lot for the mods, wanted to come here myself to see what you were going through. You provide stellar service \compensation and recognition should come with that

Anonymous

Thanks for the service and for speaking up for yourself! Deserve to get compensated for your stellar work! Hats off!

Anonymous

Thank you for your mods

Anonymous

Appreciate your hard work, glad to pay for hard work.

Anonymous

Read about your work. Saw also comments on you allowing downloads only with subscription. Thought about it, read reviews and decided to subscribe for a year. Reason why we pay for a rtx4xxx is that we want max quality in the games and if someone invests lots of work improving those games its well worth the effort to support. Keep up the good work.
