Musicians react & analyze ♡ SKZ - Hold On (Seungmin)

YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO US! :'( :'( Our SKZ-RECORD journey keeps getting better, and has reached another peak with Seungmin’s “Hold On.” Honestly, we didn't expect the lyrics to be about the precious doggos :'( don't be hittin us out of the blue like that. Since we both have dogs, it felt super personal and we suspect that it'll probably resonate with anyone who currently has or has had a pet in the past. Apart from that, as expected, Seungmin’s voice was beautiful, and he really delivered the complex emotions perfectly. The way the song builds up was amazing, making us feel every bit of the message by helping us visualize the story. Oh, and of course, we could totally sense Han's influence in this song. We love you, Stray Kids! Thanks for existing! :D If you wish to see more SKZ related contents like this one, including shows like SKZ Code, Two Kids Room, and much more, visit our patreon page at http://patreon.com/handsomesausages ! :) Kpop producer and singer-songwriter react to SKZ Seungmin's Hold On (SKZ Record). Yay. This song makes me cry. Yes Han-C, it is about a pet. Yes D'some oh no. It is going exactly where you think it's going. As a former pet owner, I had to put my last one down last year, this hit me so hard. I remember it dropping early in the morning while I was at work and I listened to it and I looked at the lyrics and I just end up sobbing. Now I don't sob as hard, but I definitely still tear up and have a little tear run down my face. It's kind of hard to tell because it's so far in the back but that was Seungmin. But I definitely want to hear the guide that Han created for this. No decent. I think we all went through that realization while listening to the song. No because you talking about the lyrics that start to make me sob even more. I am already a super emotional right now. I really shouldn't have listened to this actually. Been really anxious all day and this is just maybe getting it out. I don't know. For someone who does not have a pet, he did a really really, really good job delivering all the emotion of this song. But I'm also not surprised because this is Seungmin and he is a wonder when it comes to singing. See I watched my cat lose all of her functioning and ended up having to put her down. She was a very feisty Kitty. She was 18 years old. We affectionately called her demon Kitty. And the day we ended up putting her down she was walking very unstable. She was like tiny tiny. And she let me just pick her up and carry her around and she never does that. So I knew something was wrong and took her to the vet and she had a neurological event and there was no way for her to live a normal life anymore. So we decided that and there to put her down and It really hurt 😿. So hearing this song I immediately thought of my cat.

its all sm singing in this one, but you should watch the 2 kids show with han and sm, they do this song again as a duet, and its awesome

Hi! I love your reactions :) I was just wondering if you're planning to react to the rest of the tracks on the no easy album or if you're still getting to it? It's a really good album and it would be a good one to see you guys check out while waiting for new skz music. I think you'd especially like the song 'Silent cry' on it!

Olivia

here’s seungmin’s note for the song: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv2VS57rbjM/?igsh=eGIwMjFueGlkN3p5 from what I remember, he told Han about his worry’s of having at pet and how one day he’d have to deal with loss. Han was able to take that and create the song.

Vale

I was waiting for this reaction so much, this song is so close to my hearth bc when this came out my dog have one year that passes away, he was with me 13 years is the only dog I haved, and the lyrics are so touching, the way I cry just with the first verse, I think Seungmin put so much emotion singing this, that’s why I love this song. I can relate with Han-C I still missed him but I know that one day we can be together again and he is with me always Guys you need to react to Han and Seungmin signing the song is so magical to me the way they sound together, is in the same 2kids show when they sing Volcano too

Maria Luiza Sperotto

Their duet to this in 2 kids show it's one of my favorite live performances of skz

Olivia

once you guys get to 2 Kids Show, this is the second song they performed together after Han’s Volcano

Carla Midnight

Hold on two kids show version is my favourite, it doesn't matter if it make me cry each time i listen to it

Kwestleo

They are listening to the albums in order. And they are finishing up the in-live album right now. But they will definitely be getting to know easy. And I know they're going to love that album.

Quiet Type

oh good - i wanted to cry more today (っ-﹏- ς) Thanks as always though for the reaction - It's really interesting to met to hear about how certain structural/note/singing style choices help drive the emotion/story being told. <3

applejuice

i actually cant wait for yall to start 2 kids show - han and seungmin did a duet for volcano (which you have reacted to) and hold on there

TAMI

That high note is Seungmin he is singing it by himself, 2kids show he’ll sing it himself I can’t wait to see your reaction to that Han and Seungmin duet.

Hayy

I can’t wait for you to hear Han and Seungmin sing this together, especially right after they performed Volcano!

Hayy

Everything about this song moved me and made me cry.

Olivia

With no spoilers, the next track you should check out is Bang Chan’s Eternity. The MV was shot by him when he was back home in Sydney for vacation earlier this year

J.A. Moore

I was hoping you would listen to BOTH versions of Hold On - Seungmin's solo SKZ-RECORD version and the duet between Seungmin and Han on their 2 Kids SHOW Episode - the same way you listened to both versions of Volcano in one of your previous reactions (Han's solo version and then their duet). The duet of Hold On is the one ppl have been wanting you to listen to, especially. Here's their duet from 2KS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YLbNSC9HUc

🦔

I was hoping for this

honeym

First thought when i listened to this song on 2kids show... The song sound so emotional as i didn't understand korea🫠...so when i know the meaning...i cry so hard as i could relate to the loss of my pet (cat)...i could see how D'some trying to control the emotion to not cry and respect you for that because i literally sobbing😅... More on the story about the making of the song is on 2kids show😉... Will wait for you to react on that maybe after finishing 2kids room... For now...i'll just do the usual which is enjoying your content about Skz☺️...Love your reaction and your opinion😁...Thank you for extra musical knowledge and term🤗

aicrylic (aimee)

pls do long for you and hey you by hyunjin next 😭 they're so good but no one talks about them

Dianne

They talk a bit more about the song in the 2 kids show, can’t wait for you guys to see it. And yes the high note was all him, he is singing on his own

Rina

Also waiting for this, though I personally hope it comes with the full episode. They do talk about the creative process in it, so that answers some of the questions from this reaction as well

Elina

Han has his way with lyrics, he doesn't paint a picture, it's a whole damn movie. I knew I was going to cry and still watched it before work.

Rina

This is such a beautiful song, and even better live - but I really recommend watching the full 2Kids Show episode with Han and Seungmin and not just the clip of the song. They talk about the process behind it in the episode. It's just as wholesome as 2kr, with the added bonus of actually talking about the music. I do have a cat, and that middleaged grumpycat is my first pet. Can't even begin to imagine losing him ... I guess it makes sense to pause the discography run-through for a bit, as they'll be dropping 'Giant' next wednesday. I can't wait! Both for the album and your reactions to it!

Rina

If you do want a few crumbs going forward, there's side quests aplenty before and throughout 2021, which includes two first takes and some pretty amazing performances. (I cannot sleep and it's 4am, so a LOT of links follows😂😂 Maybe someone hasn't seen some of these?) Changbin did the first solo feature of the group back in 2019, where he featured on Yoon Jisung's "You ... Like the wind" https://youtu.be/fx9XYpwFbKc?si=WE9jDl3uCH7VOfGV: There's also a 6 min bts video from it's recording: https://youtu.be/blWpyP4B3hg?si=sEfwAJJJhqZrkbbl Next, you'll be coming up on their Japanese debut album "ALL IN", which really only has two new tracks - "ALL IN" and "One Day". There's 7 tracks in total, the rest have already been reacted to. 2021 starts off with with the Alesso x Stray Kids x CORSAK collab "Going Dumb". This MV is a bts from the recording: https://youtu.be/t-uJLBAIyfQ?si=oVEsR6ZPj3nmtFXU There's also the Mike Williams remix https://youtu.be/N16gfoI7Z5c?si=nKbwFM99dxgZ_9xw And an interview where Alesso talks about working with skz and corsak (4min): https://youtu.be/OYRIZLY_zPY?si=TzzX6uAEcwVjJs8Y There's the single "Mixtape: OH" (also on Noeasy). The MV had all of Stayville crying, and for good reason, though not necessarily because of the song itself: https://youtu.be/M7lIml8-eHU?si=bsnGnzvc57hIKCQM And a first take: https://youtu.be/XhwImas7D0c?si=Q34U7YljsCGTBAx0 Chan featured on Tzuyu's (Twice) cover of "ME!" by Taylor Swift: https://youtu.be/IO1Nl9ErTsI?si=KVETp7cwFfGK-dBl Noeasy brought a lot of gems and remains my favourite Korean album of theirs. Notably, two consecutive tracks on this album, "Silent Cry" and "Secret Secret", should imo be listened to in the same sitting, even if they are posted separately. Also there's the "Howl in Harmony" series, which is a bts of the creative process for the unit tracks. Then they gave us Japanese single "Scars" which is my most listened to song of all, not just skz. Theres a MV: https://youtu.be/oUq2a6t258o?si=BY3Y7yxlToHjCozM An amazing first take: https://youtu.be/mDw95b-YyEc?si=k_ViEEJhnW5B__tp A dance practice: https://youtu.be/vVi9rW0UqHI?si=kwiLHbGdr9xaT1mr ....aaaaand about a gazillion performances. And lastly, Seungmin's first solo OST, which he did for Hometown Cha Cha Cha; "Here Always": https://youtu.be/iIkVGAjIdKk?si=Qx67m8ZlBNdZzNM- ... before they topped it all off with a Christmas EP, because why the h* not. We're all just along for the ride at this point... Christmas is coming up, though, and as far as I know, you've only reacted to "Christmas EveL". "Winter Falls" has been talked about a lot by Han recently and "24 to 25" is such a sweet song. All three have live performances from end of year shows as well as official MVs: Winter Falls MV https://youtu.be/S4qK-Gzyws0?si=sZqa9Ch4rxkkUTFr Live w/Thunderous christmas ver. (2nd half seen on livestream) https://youtu.be/wpQ03UGQIuQ?si=akIHYf4TSX_ETufk 24 to 25 MV https://youtu.be/bVtw8ndiuO0?si=JquDJTinxtA_DlRU Live https://youtu.be/yhR96l7ZRl4?si=fg76RxMPrcTfB8B_ Christmas EveL + Case 143 live https://youtu.be/m3VhIhzgfLU?si=uFmpRfZOMVK0Q-2y

I lost my dog few years ago. There was relief (last months were hard) and I knew it was coming so I didn't expect the grief to hit so hard. She was annoying and headstrong and I still miss her. We are going to get 4 new songs from Giant AND recording clips! New Christmas song! Too bad the SKZ Japanese channel doesn't believe in subtitles.

Rina

I'm sorry to hear that. Being prepared doesn't really help, does it? I can't really imagine it. IKNOOOOOW!! So excited! Luckily, a lot of Stays are really good at bringing the translations, so here's hoping🤞🏻🤞🏻 I'm really curious about the christmas song. Knowing skz, it can't just be a christmas song. But then there is a lot of heavy hitters on the album from the ones we know already, so who knows

sysrae

I teared up listening to this one, as I've lost two cats since I heard it last, and thus found it particularly affecting. I know the stereotype is that cats don't greet you when you get home the way dogs do, but these cats both did a lot of the time. I still haven't been able to bring myself to play any more Outer Wild yet, because the last time I did, it was the final week of our disabled orange cat's life, and I played with him purring on my lap.

anx_krw

Losing a pet or an animal that you have an emotional connection with is never easy and i feel like this song is perfect way of expressing that longing to see your beloved animal again. I teared up mostly from the message as well as the delivery of Seungmin’s voice. He is something special. So excited to see more SKZ-records/players. I can’t wait til you get to more of Hyunjin’s songs. His songs hit me in the soul the most 🥹💞

Rina

So sorry for your loss❤️sounds like you had a special connection. Cats are so loving when they've found their people, aren't they?

Beeeeebz

I think this is my favorite Seungmin solo song. When I first heard it, I didn't look up what the lyrics were but just enjoyed it purely for the music and Seungmin's voice. But when him and Han did it on 2 kids show (please react to that version as well!), and they explained how it came to be and what it was about, I cried 😭. I have 2 dogs and one of them is getting quite old so it really hit me hard. I personally can't handle any animals dying let alone my own pets. Seungmin's voice is such a treasure and the combination of it and Hanpop is just *chef's kiss*.

Sasa

Han and Seungmin wanted to write a sad song but more than just a regular heartbreak song. And wow they did it! Han such a genius lyricist, after the conversation they had Han immediately finish the lyric and guide and send it to Seungmin, he was so excited to hear Seungmin’s reaction! The original song is amazing, but I fell in love with them singing this song in a duet!

Big Wave Dave

Glad you guys finally got to this. I agree that watching this performance will help you understand Han's contribution to the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YLbNSC9HUc

Big Wave Dave

Also, I agree that the Hometown Cha Cha Cha OST is a must: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIkVGAjIdKk

Ctmaddie

Also Phobia OST https://youtu.be/xndR58WxI2c?si=c7iJUHmMBhC60ph2 and the BTS https://youtu.be/atTj1vHkuZo?si=iLAWcaRHRR1NAepi

Sapientia

I teared up when listening to it for the first time. Normally i cant read lyrics whilst listening, but they got me hooked for some reason and i completely teared up. I havent owned many pets and recently adopted my first cat, but still, the idea of loosing something or better, someone so close to you is so devastating. Han really put the feeling into beautiful words and then Seungmin delivered it beautifully! Thank you for reacting to this song! Really curious what you'll think of their duet, thoughts and more when you watch the 2kidsshow that accompanies this song (and volcano but you already watched that performance i think).

Klaramell

Wait did i miss something, because you still haven't listened to all their other songs right? Like from the noeasy album or their japanese releases? Also when you do, i can't wait for you to check out the final episode(s) of kingdom week, which you postponed until you checked out the noeasy album to not get songs spoiled.

Rina

I also paused a bit at that, but then I interpreted it as them waiting with the rest until after the new music, as Giant releases next week. That being said, I don't actually know😅 Might be wrong. But yes, there's still a lot that haven't been reacted to yet

Pushnitsya

Listen this song made me cry so much. Han did had a puppy they lost, but also they just started talking about loss and this song came from it. They sing it together in the 2kids show, it's heartbreakingly beautiful

Handsome Sausages

Yeh no, we haven't! We meant the actual 'new' releases, not the old ones we haven't seen yet! Those are ongoing only on Patreon (as in, we just wrapped up In Life album :D) so we don't talk about them for YT vids since most ppl don't even know that that's going on XD

Krystal

This song came out right after I found out my dog had cancer and there wasn't anything they could do. They just gave us time.. and I was able to keep him for a couple more months until it was his time to go. Really REALLY hard. Of course I've had family dogs, but I never had a dog basically imprint on me during a time in my life where I was going out in the world on my own. He was with me every day for 13 years. Literally the hardest thing EVER. It's only been a year and I still think about him all the time and can't imagine getting another pup. This song.. was beautifully written and composed. With Seungmin singing, he knew exactly how to give it the emotion it called for. I tear up every time I hear it. This song is a gift and I'm thankful it was given to us <3

Klaramell

Ooooh okay i see, yeah that makes sense haha. Thanks for clearing that up, i wouldn't want to miss out on your reactions to the "older" songs :D

Yoshi (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

Lots of STAYs thought Han's vocals were on this song because of the adlibs when the song initially came out, but Seungmin and Han have confirmed it is solely Seungmin's vocals
