I feel like I should have rewatched Diebuster in preparation for this episode since it's been a decade since I watched it. Still fun hearing about it again after all this time. Also re: "Diebuster riffing on Ultraman before Anno could", if you think about, NGE is BASICALLY an (edgier) Ultraman show.

A very late comment, but it's super funny listening to this as somebody who did start with 08th after bouncing off of the original, and only went back to revisit 79 once the first season of this podcast was free to follow along with it
