Take on the last dangerous job in the universe as a cosmic pearl diver. Produced by deep space aberrant entities, pearls are the most valuable substance in existence. Snatching one is no easy feat but you were made for this.

Maybe I overdid it with the opening blurb but hopefully that's whet your appetite. A few notes about what you're looking at:

  • Regulus is a run-and-gun style game with pretty fast movement.
  • There is practically no story or narrative elements.
  • The player character design is not yet finalized. We're aiming for an elegant looking character with a diver motif. It might change drastically but we don't know yet.
  • Some things in the screenshots are more complete than others, the blue enemies will probably be recoloured to the redish colour scheme at some point.
  • The yellow circles are placeholders, maybe you can guess what they do.
  • To show off as much as possible in the screenshots, I didn't take out enemies as quickly as I usually would, it's not as much of a bullet hell as it might seem here.
  • The game is still not feature-complete and as such, everything is subject to change.
  • Nothing is animated yet. Most enemies have simple behaviours so they will only need one or two animations but it's still a long road ahead in that regard.
  • We're aiming to have three levels. They will have the same enemy types but might have a different tileset.
  • Since the focus is on shooting and the player character can only aim in four directions, none of the level design so far has used slopes. There might not be any in the final game.
  • Since the game technically takes place in space, the player character has a somewhat "floaty" feel. Obviously I'm still refining it but it feels like the right decision to me. Since some people equate floaty with bad, I figured I should mention this as a warning. It'll be floaty.

Hopefully that's enough info for now. Feel free to let us know what you think and thanks for all the support thus far.

I think the in space vibe of the game may prefer slopes over the stair-like downs and ups that are here so far but I'm saying that partially because of a bias where I look at this sort of game and immediately assume the mode of control is a space-ship. I'll need to see a video of gameplay in order to offer more comprehensive feedback. I'm also now going to change my notification email so I can actually respond in a timely manner this time.

Definitely seeing some ESA inspiration. Looking forward to seeing more progress!
