I hope to make some recommendation videos again but since that's not happening any time soon, I had an idea. Back when I got the Steam Deck I took some recommendations from you all but it just occurred to me that we've never done it the other way around, so here's an offer: You can tell me what type of game you're looking to play - or any other information you think might be relevant - and I'll try to recommend something.

If you're interested, read these next few bits first:

- All you need to do is leave a comment here and I'll try to reply. I won't respond to comments here forever but you don't need to rush either, I'll check back in periodically for a few days at least.

- These are not generalized recommendations so the games I mention might not "qualify" for a recommendation video on the main channel. I'll try to tailor the recommendation to whatever you tell me so I might not even like the games I recommend. If I have mixed feelings on a game I recommend to you I'll try to clarify that in the comment itself.

- Telling me some of your favourite games might be a good idea. It might also be good to pre-empt me if you think I'll recommend something you've already played so I can pick something else. In other words you can say "I'm looking for something like X but I've already played Y".

- Tangentially related questions are alright. For example "Which Zelda games do you think I should start with?" or something like that. If it helps you pick a game to play that's fine by me.

- There's an asymmetry in our knowledge of each other, I don't know much about your gaming experiences or tastes so try not to be too disappointed if my recommendation is off the mark or doesn't seem appealing.

Haven't done this before but hopefully it'll be fun. Feel free to join in with recommendations to other commenters if you feel so inclined.

Hi Matthew, My favorite game of all time is dustforce but I’m looking for other precision 2d platformers since I’ve gotten an SS rank on every level. I’ve also completely finished Celeste and loved that as well. Beyond those two I’ve had a good time with Mario Wonder and both of the newer Donkey Kong titles. Part of me thinks I should just get into Mario World now but I was wondering if you have any other recommendations outside of the obvious. I would love to find something else with the same kind of challenge and skill curve as dustforce but maybe it really is one of a kind in that sense.

I tried to look for good 2d action platformers like gng and castlevnia but I think I played all the good ones already. I tried some megamans and a bunch of indie ones and a lot of them don't have as strong level design and are dependent on collecting upgrades or having shops to be interesting. I particularly like the castlevania games that have weird move set options like the backflip in rondo and the trident guy in bloodlines. I've already tried: all the good classicvanias, gng resurection, keroblaster, alien soldier, gunstar heros, a few megamans, shovel knight, volgarr the viking, princess madeline, cuphead, the messenger and cybershadow.
