I think the part relating to the divorce and how hard his mom had to try to keep him has to deal with the law in SK. Because around that time the children belong to the men and not their mom, and it was hard for mothers to get custody. Also, the last seen I saw it more of she didn't think it was an actual school trip and something Yi-JIn did for them, or she probably didn't want to think about the good times when she and her friends were all together. Because as you said, people drift apart.
