One thing to keep in mind is that BTS debuted from a very small company who were close to bankruptcy at one point, so they definitely weren’t flying first class at this point. BTS didn’t start gaining a lot of popularity in South Korea until they released I Need U in 2015. It wasn’t until 2017 that they started appearing on American music awards.
