Nah, you guys are catching on really quick! It's so much information in the first couple of episodes. So it's great you guys are putting 2 and 2 together. But I can summarize a bit of everyone's intentions: Kim clan: Grand Queen Dowagers family, basically everyone on the right side of the king in the court room. All corrupt af. (Tax evasion, real estate corruption, military corruption, etc). Put our queen on the throne so they can have full control over the kingdom. Head honcho is the grand queen dowagers little brother, who controls the king. Jo clan: Queen dowagers family, everyone on the left side of the king in the court room. Her niece is Jo Hwa Jin, the Royal concubine and she has the kings heart. She believes in black magic and all that, she gave her niece a talisman to get pregnant before our queen so they can have the crown prince come from the Jo family. They are also corrupt af. King: He acts like an idiot but is actually trying to take down both sides at the same time. He used to be a commoner (as seen in the flashback when he was cutting wood) but was chosen to lead the country after the late king (queen dowagers son) passed away with no heir. He was the closest living relative at the time. His family was sentenced to exile and killed when he was young, but the Kim family brought him back because they thought he was stupid and needed someone on the throne they could control. He has no relations to either clan. He doesn't like our queen because he thinks she is corrupt just like her family (the Kim's). He acted like they slept together to appease the GQD since they are trying to put an heir from their side before the Jo family does. This actually is a real thing in Korean history, a king acted dumb but he ruled them all in the end. Not sure which king he was tho lol I made sure I didn't spoil anything with just the information we have from the first 2 episodes. I hope it helped 😅 but yes the comedy is top tierrrrrr! The dragon scene will never not be funny lmao.

About the whole Queen thing, the way I understood it, The Queen (our main character) is the wife of the current king while a Queen Dowager is the widow of a deceased king. In this case, since there's two of them, one is called Queen Dowager and the other Grand Queen Dowager. I think the Queen Dowager (the younger one) is the mother of the last King that ruled before Cheoljong (our CLOY guy) and the wife of an earlier king. The Grand Queen Dowager (the older one) is the Grandmother of the late king, so she was married to an even earlier king than Queen Dowager. I hope that made sense😅

The king is a good guy. And the queen is also a good person. They are both just caught up in the ugly politics that reigned in Joseon. Royal marriages in Joseon era were no love affairs. The weddings were political strategies for families and clans to stay in power and continue ruling for centuries. Rarely did the queen and king love each other. And the royal concubine position was created for whomever the king truly loved,…or if the queen couldn’t bear a child. Yep,…historical dramas are very political. The drama that occurred in Joseon and Goryeo kingdoms is truly one of a kind. The palace had more bloodshed than war fields lol. The power play, the betrayals, the drama…no genius writers can ever cook up such dramatic stories as those found in the Annals of Joseon King Cheoljong came into power when the previous king died without a male heir, cause he was the closest existing relative at the time. He grew up in poverty because his family had been exiled for treason. (His childhood trauma is the reason why he keeps getting the nightmares) The whole kindgom was in poverty at the time due to the corruption of the power hungry Andong Kim clan The king is trying to fight the monopoly of the Andong Kim clan, by using the ledgers which contain records of their corrupt transactions. The Grand queen dowager and Queen dowager were the grandmother and mother of the previous belated king. The grand queen dowager served as regent when they placed Cheoljong on the throne. And Kim Jwa Geun, (the final boss) is her younger bro. They are the ones running the kingdom, not the king. The king has little to no political influence or power. He’s just a puppet, but he’s trying to claim his power back and bring down the corrupt clans that are ruining the kingdom. The queens dad is the grand queen dowagers older brother. That’s why king Cheoljong despises the queen King Cheoljong has been putting on an act and playing dumb to fool the Andong Kim clan. He wants them to think he is an idiot, that’s why he is reading stuff upside down,…and reading R rated manga out in the open. His eunuch is a spy keeping tabs on him,…and that’s why his history is a bit distorted.
