Hey everyone!
There won't be any Re:ZERO uploads this week as we are trying to smash out Frieren.
We're hoping we can get the first 7 episodes of Frieren up on Patreon this weekend! We thought because we finished Re:ZERO Season 1, now would be a good chance to catch up on some Frieren for a week.

Before we start Re:ZERO Season 2, are there any OVA's that are essential? We're not sure we'll record these as there are some very long OVA's and we just wont have the time in our busy schedule. Please also keep in mind that OVA's generally perform very poorly on youtube which is why we dont always cover OVA's on the channel. However, if the Re:ZERO ones are necessary, we'll try to AT LEAST watch them off camera before we begin S2 next week. We'd love to hear your thoughts down below!

Lets GOOOOO

alexis ♡︎

OMG IM SO EXCITED!! 7 EPS??!! YOU GUYS ARE THE GOATS

Zekken

Both of the OVAS are definitely necessary if you want some more clarification on some things

Diego Beltran

Well, thats sad, I wanted you to watch the memory snow one because it was funny, but no, that one is not important, the other one on the other side, is the story of how emilia and puck met, you should watch that one

Anonymous

Yeah I'd say The Frozen Bond is a need watch, Cause it relates to the next season heavily.

ChmpagnShadw

Watch Frozen Bond off camera if you don’t got time with some snacks and drink. On the big TV

Ecodude

You should watch The frozen bond OVA (is the 2nd one) before season 2. Is very important bc is Emilia's backstory. You can also watch the first OVA, is not relevant plot wise just slice of life shenanigans but is fun regardless Edit: Think about the frozen bond OVA as an extra episode part of the main series and that you really did not finish S1 bc you didn't watch it lol

Bman468

The Frozen Bond is absolutely necessary and is pretty important. The other one I’d also recommend as it has a few key details in it but The Frozen Bond is a requirement.

Rodrigo Reyes Escobar

I agree with the frozen bond episodes but there’s also a directors cut edition of Re:Zero and on the last episode there’s a end credit scene that I’m pretty sure is a must watch for next season but it works more as a transition into next season or so I believe

AverageVP

Not an OVA but re:zero in 8 minutes by Gigguk

SilverWind

Memory snow is not important, watch just Frozen bond. It's pretty long, but it's not really necessary to watch it right now (especially if you don't record yourself). You can also watch it during season 2 if it's a problem this week, just don't delay it too much for your own good.

Kaan_869

There are two OVAs (movies): - "Memory Snow" which takes place between season 1 episode 11 and episode 12 (canon) - "The frozen bond" which is supposed to be watched after the first season but is a prequel (also canon) I don't really care about the first one as I didn't like it that much but the second one frozen bond is actually important to understand Emilias character. So if you want to react to just one of them I would recommend the second one as it also has much more to actually react to

Ecodude

That part also happens on ep1 of season 2. They won't miss it.

MrYinYang

OVAs not necessary imo. But Frozen Bond gives more character background for Emilia. Emilia gets a huge arc in Season 2, so there's brief moments and references from Frozen Bond. Memory Snow just slice of life stuff, i don't think it contributes that much to the overall plot of season 2

Wiznoot123

Pretty much to keep it as straight forward as possible The Frozen Bond OVA: I’d watch this off camera if you guys don’t have the time for it but it will help provide a lot of context behind Emilia’s character. Memory Snow OVA: Takes place between episodes 11 and 12 of season 1. It is cannon but it is more of a funny feel good OVA. Almost slice of life like. It is not essential to watch but I still recommend watching it in your spare time because it’s very funny.

Anonymous

The Frozen Bond OVA should definitely be watched between S1 and S2 in my opinion. It provides a lot of helpful information on a certain main character. The other OVA is mostly just comedy, so you could skip it if you don't have the time.

Anonymous

Both OVAs are canon, and have at least something important in them. Memory Snow is more comedy, but has important lore information regarding the magic system and Betty. It's funny, feels good to watch after season 1, but would undercut some stuff if you watch after season 2. It does fine on YouTube, as far as I can tell. Frozen Bond is essential to Emilias character, but is quite dull, imo. Definitely watch that one off screen, it does really bad on YouTube.

Unholy

Awesome really excited to see the Frieren reactions

ThaDoubleB

Both of the OVAs are cannon and both of the OVAs should definitely be watched. Frozen Bond is the most important of the two if you absolutely have to only watch one. Memory Snow doesn’t have as much “important” content as it tends towards slice of life, but it does take place directly before Frozen Bond, has foreshadowing for future events, and develops the characters. They’re both very good. Memory Snow is about the size of two ReZero episodes and Frozen Bonds is around the length of a movie.

RunAwayCloak

The ova Memory of snow if you want a good time and more rem and Subaru being together and frozen bond is a must watch there

Noctis

I didn't watch the re zero ovas and I was good

Anonymous

You should watch Frozen Bond OVA

Anonymous

Like the others are saying the Frozen Bond OVA is important but I'd still watch Memory of Snow even if it's off camera, it's comedy but also a wholesome moment for the characters, it help us, the viewers, to be more emotionally invested in the next Arc. But these are OVAs after all, if you guys really don't have much time, it's fine to jump straight into season 2.

HorriblyUnoriginal

Please watch both OVAs if you can. Like others have said, Memory Snow, the first one, is funny, but not so important. But it's a better performer. Frozen Bonds, the second one, is much more important, but it's very slow, probably a bad performer. They are both canon, and take place one after the other. Considering certain events in Season 2, I think they are both worth watching. Also, if you don't cover OVAs on YouTube because they don't perform well, have you ever considered making them Patreon exclusive? I was so sad that you guys skipped the Steins;Gate OVA.

angelalala

Can't wait for Frieren!

Mango

7 episodes of Frieren!! YES!!!

PepsiMan

what is Frieren, anyone? is it good?

DeliveryBoy

I didn't watch any of the OVAs and I didn't feel like I missed any of the information so if you're short on time then I don't think you need to force yourself to watch them. I did hear that Frozen Bonds can help you be a little less confused though!

Addstir

I wouldn't say the OVA's are VITAL, like if you miss them then s2 won't confuse you. HOWEVER, I'd say Frozen Bonds should be watched, on or off cam I don't mind. On cam I'll watch it, off cam just give a summary of your thoughts in the intro to S2 ep 1 <3 As for the OTHER OVA, I'd say it's worth watching tbh, since it has a lot of cool things, and tbh I'd have loved to see Ange's reaction to the last half ;) But yeah, ultimately they aren't MUST WATCHES, but it's nice to watch them

Astor Lefflinker

I don't agree with it being #1 of all time. It's recency bias for sure. Season 1 isn't even finished so how can people say it's the best anime of all time? lol. However, it's a really great watch. Each episode leaves you with a good feeling, and if you love the high-fantasy genre, Frieren would definitely be for you. It made me want to play a fantasy RPG game, and when anime have that effect on you, you know it's a really good anime.

Metatempo

The OVA's are not vital but frozen bond is interresting and help to understand the character of Emilia.

this is one long ass username

Memory snow performs well as its *light spoiler ahead* highly comedic. Wouldn’t it be possible to record a Patreon only version so you could skip editing the whole thing?

Noctislolig

The "Frozen Bond"-OVA is definitely vital. Both OVA's are great but if you are hesitant you should definitely at least watch that one. The "Memory Snow"-OVA is great and I'm certain it would perform well in terms of views but it is definitely more along the lines of filler-content and should canonically have been watched after episode 11 of season 1, so it doesn't really matter now.

souma shou

they can just watch it offscreen. its the recording and editing that takes alot of time

Anonymous

The Memory Snow OVA is worth missing from a narrative point of view. The Frozen Bond OVA is not worth missing in my opinion, as it is Emilia's back story. This will help you form more theories and is needed when thinking about the over-arching plot. There is a director's cut of season 1, but yeah I just wanted to add that detail.

Kamba

ahi ovas informativas, pero no sera necesario, incluso puedes verlos al terminar la temporada 2, o si quieres no

ONEEIGHTEEN

HELLLLLLLL YAAAAAAA

mellon 100

rly wanted to see your reaction to Emilias OVA :(

Anonymous

Memory snow is not as important to the story but is still very enjoyable in my opinion.

Daniel Molina

So I started watching Re Zero when you two started and when I finished season 1 i skipped the memory snow OVA, but watched Frozen Bond. I was confused as hell during it but lets just say by the end of season 2 it made sense. I do think its worth watching, be prepared to be a little lost, but it did really help to have that context when watching season 2. CANT WAIT FOR FRIEREN 😭😭😭

Anonymous

I think Frozen Bonds would be the only one that you should really need to watch between the 2

Keenan

I think you should just watch the OVA "frozen bond" off camera. The OVA "Memory snow" I think is less essential as some people are saying, but viewers might find it more engaging than frozen bond. when I was watching re zero, I unknowingly just skipped the OVA's lol.

Champion Bescos

It’s something I never knew I needed. Much like Oshi no Ko, this series came out of nowhere for me and delivered with its insightful and emotionally moving writing, it’s great characters, it’s unique premise, amazing music, and breathtaking animation. It’s seemingly “light” on plot at first, but that changes over time. More than a plot driven narrative, however, it’s a vibe. A feeling. A place to visit. I described it to my wife as what people tell me One Piece is to them.

Alex Chen

anyone remember if they should watch the last couple mins of the director's cut? I remember that set up the second season.

Arraka

Don’t think that’s necessary as that’s just the beginning of the 2nd season anyways

Joshua Lopez

Nah, they'll see it when they start the second season. Literally no point, they'll just see it twice

Seifren

I've never seen Memory Snow so I can't comment on it, but I've seen Frozen Bond 3 times now and I'm able to understand season 2. It is somewhat critical since some things will be unclear if you don't watch it, though it isn't like, in your face, "you will not be able to understand anything at all if you don't watch it" levels of critical. I'm with the people that say to watch Frozen Bond off screen since, IMO, I think it isn't as high-quality as the show is (personally, I just think it isn't very good). Just knowing that you both had seen it before going into season 2 would be plenty good enough for me and probably most other people.

this is one long ass username

Fuck it I‘ll double comment for them to watch the "Memory Snow" OVA. It’s just perfect for a reaction channel and I just know we‘ll get so many laughs out of it. Please give us that reaction at least

Stormageddon Thomason

Just a heads up on Frieren, the first 4 episodes were aired together, I’d say they were meant to be watched together

PepsiMan

I'm 3 episodes in, Its giving heavy "To Your Eternity" vibes.

ThaDoubleB

Watching Memory Snow after Season 1 is completely legitimate, it doesn’t chronologically take place there, but there are quite a few references to events that transpire in the 2nd half of Season 1 that wouldn’t be understood if watched after Ep. 11

Noctislolig

@ThaDoubleB So you mean "foreshadowing"? I mean you aren't necessarily wrong, usually filler content of any kind and in any show can be watched whenever, simply because it's filler content. In this specific case I think the experience of season 1 is greatly enhanced when watching it in chronological order though. Seeing the fight between Subaru and Emilia in episode 13 just hits harder when the two of them actually had some more moments beforehand. Furthermore, season 2 picks up right where season 1 left off so watching too much stuff in between seems counter-intuitive imo. In hindsight I kinda' regret not having watched the OVAs in the intended order.

Anonymous

Frozen Bond is ESSENTIAL. It's basically a mini movie. While I would greatly appreciate a proper reaction, if that's simply not an option then I highly encourage watching it offline and giving us a mini recap/thoughts about it in the s2 e1 intro.

Evan Valenti

I'm just excited for you guys to start season 2. Great season. Frieren is a perfect show for you guys as well.

Evan Valenti

Heads up about Re:Zero season 2. The second half is all 30 min episodes. Which is great imo.

Merfhew

Honestly, if it means getting both OVAs, I'd rather you hold off on Season 2 for now (temporarily). If you're taking this week off for Frieren, maybe watch Memory Snow (OVA 1) next week, and then Frozen Bond (OVA2) the week after that? I believe the OVAs have a runtime of approximately 2.5 episodes, so you wouldn't need to watch too much more than normal. If you're worried that watching "2.5 episodes" of Re:Zero for 2 weeks in a row is too much for recording time, maybe watch 1 episode less of another show those weeks? If you follow a road map like that, you'd be able to watch everything. And it would mean you can start Season 2 when March begins, which gives you a better chance of rolling into S3 when that comes out (I'm guessing within the next 5 months). To be clear, I'm excited to see your S2 reactions, but I want you to get the full Re:Zero experience. Even if the OVA reactions are raw video, we could sync it up with our own copies. As for the YouTube part, while I'm not an expert, I don't think you need to worry. While I can't speak to OVAs from other shows, I'm pretty sure Re:Zero reactions usually do well (even for the OVAs). When you say OVAs don't normally do well, is that because of the video length? If so, would it help to split each OVA in half for YouTube? Sorry if those are dumb questions. Another reaction channel I follow has, historically, split their movie reactions when uploading to YouTube, and it seems to work for them.

Brand Jr

maybe watch frozen bond off cam.. but deffff watch memory snow on cam pls

Anonymous

I can't wait for the first frieren ep!!

Ya Boy

mellon 100

yep splitting reactions is rly good for viewer retention, plus the Re:Zero IP is RLY Big so it would perform good for OVA plus side is also there arent many people watching the OVA so they have in the Longterm a monopole on reactions which fish more people into their patreon.

The Great Santini

Wait what do they mean by "catch up on Frieren?" Did they start it yet? I don't support this Re:Zero slander but I shall accept our fate. Oh and watch the OVAs off-camera if you feel like it. I don't think they're completely necessary for understanding the 2nd season although one feeds into it a bit.

Adriano Cabral

The emilia movie is essential

Danny

not really. sure it adds a bit to the character, but i wouldn't say it's essential.

JP77

Wished they paused the bulk loads like haikyuu and hxh instead of re zero that we only get 2 of a week

Aiyuu

You should watch the Frozen Bond movie. It is a bout her past and will give you insights into her character.

Slizzle

Was looking forward to re zero but I understand people want frieren
