Isekai means other world. So for an anime to be considered an isekai the person has to be reincarnated into another world summoned or teleported to another world isekais or mostly fantasy but the genre is very vast. The way to pronounce her name is Sa-Tell-A. And one last thing not to do with re zero i hope that you guys put mushoku tensai in a poll somewhere in the futre if you ever watched game of thrones mushoku tensai would not be as bad as ppl say love your content and have a good time at the wedding.

i believe modern explanation of isekai is "in the different setting" because there is lot of arguing about whether anime like sword art online and shangri-la frontier are isekai or not. genre evolved from its original module althuogh there is still lot of arguments over it even today whether that is how it should be or if there should be new genre for anime like SAO some say crucial element is that you are no longer in your real world which is why many argue SAO is not isekai since its just VR experience while your body is still in real world by all means, others go even further and say it is not isekai unless you get hit by a truck-kun etc... :)

I’m just giving them the run down of the most common tropes in which one would declare an isekai an isekai shows like SAO are in the minority of shows called isekais without the list of things I named being the catalyst of one being isekaied

Already been mentioned but isekai genre is just 'to another world' where a person from 'our world' goes to another one, usually fantasy. It has some popular tropes that are common but not necessarily needed. That includes reincarnation/revival, some cute goddess/princess that summons the person, or the protagonist that was summoned having some OP magic ability. Subaru, being into manga - is aware of these tropes and those are the first things on his mind

There is good Isekais and alot of bad isekais like alot of them. I just hope that Frieren will become so popular that the isekai genre dies for a bit and we get regular fantasy stories instead

Been waiting for this!!! To add more to what already been said, one of the main trope of Isekai is the main character usually have a shitty/boring life prior to being taken to another world, then became the “main character”/someone important/someone very OP and suddenly have a meaningful/fun life (think Harry Potter finding out he’s a wizard after many years with the Dursley). It’s been overused to the point of becoming a meme. That’s why Subaru was cool with being transported. He expects to now become someone important and have a fun/meaningful life. I feel like understanding this part of the genre and Subaru’s expectation is helpful to understanding Subaru and to really get the full taste of some part of the show. Regardless, hope you enjoy it!!! P.S. the most common (?) and iconic way to being Isekai-ed is to be hit by a truck then reincarnated in another world as a result, in case that meme come up in comments. 😂
