I guess Ketil was pretty kind on the surface and tried to be. The problem is he hasn't got the courage or the strength to back it up, not even against himself. He wasn't strong enough to defend those kids although he thought it wasn't OK to punish them and he wasn't strong enough to defend Arnheid from himself. Just like you said, it's a spineless spoiled brat. He forgets his principles when you mess with what he really cares about and things don't go his way. Kindness without strength can be almost as dangerous as cruelty.

Dude, are you Ketil? Asking because that's mostly spot on. That said anyone would break given the situation that Ketil is in and when you are cornered like that, you tend to hurt the ones you love most.

The biggest issue I have with this episode is Thorfinn's gaze towards Arnheid. Everyone else was trying to cheer her on, but he knew a broken soul. That gaze haunts me.

that was canute talking about god from season 1 ep 20, we don't get to hear the end of the line, but he says: "I will never forgive him (God)", looking up at the sky with a very similar expression to Thorfinn
