I am really excited for the last few episodes

jep2003

Turns out the spineless slave owner is a bad person. The amount of weirdos that tried to defend him when this episode came out was truly disgusting

EZ

There were so many losers saying she "deserved it" how can a slave be in the wrong for wanting to be free?

EZ

Appreciate the extra ep tomorrow! It's pure peak at this point

Sh3nx

the mangaka himself talks about ketils situation and rationalizes his actions. its an extremely flawed character that has good qualities as well overall and its the better slave owner of that time, something very normalized as well, as the mangaka himself has pointed out, or is he a weirdo as well? can we just have a talk about a fictional character as the shades of gray he is. both sides are insane.

Decaf

Damn it i guess it was just a matter of time til Ketil breaks. I thought it was gonna be like instant kill not beating. It was wrong for him to letting off steam on her like that but i get where its coming from. It was all that petty man could think of in this situation.

thank youuuuuu:)

Weirdos? nah we just simply understand that Ketil reached his breaking point. All it takes is One. Bad. Day. Now im not saying arnheid deserved that, but it’s understandable why he did that. The one thing he trusted/loved the most just betrayed him on TOP of everything else going wrong (the whole Canute situation) and now the one thing keeping him together is gone and betrayed em…. like come on it’s understandable why he did what he did lol

Dude, imagine Thorkell coming out of the boat into the battlefield. That would be like playing Exodia in Yugioh.

EZ

@obito6ix @Sh3nx Omg nobody is saying that the people that understand why ketil is mad are weirdos! the show makes painfully clear why he feels betrayed over a slave trying to rightfuly escape, it's the losers that say she "DESERVED IT" that are the weirdos!

YAYY!! 3 episodes in one week. Ep 20 reaction will break my heart to the max 🥹

Hans Wurst

Ironic you called Leif having the worst luck - he is actually called Leif the Lucky!

Sh3nx

not really, some people really take rationalizing his character as "defending him". both sides are insane in that regard. lets be in the middle

I don't think Ketil showed his true colours, he's just been pushed too far past his limit. Like how Thorfinn was when his father died.

Chrisiyyi

i dont get why people hate ketil so much for hitting someone, hating him way more then someone like thorfinn or thorkell or askeladd who legit killed many people for less reasons Edit: I dont mean to justify ketil his actions, just find it weird that people love one but hate the other

2023-07-11 10:46:40 Unlike Thorfinn, who acted purely out of trauma, Ketil was always on the wrong side. He was a slave owner and a coward. He thought of himself as a good a man, but ultimately he upheld a system of violence and oppression that reduced human beings to possessions. He may have treated his slaves better than most, but he still saw them as belongings. I'm sure the point is to show that owning slaves creates a fundamental hierarchy of human value, and how difficult it is to be a truly good person (i.e. Ketil) when justifying that system.

That's why I think him buckling under pressure *is* him showing his true colours. He was always an oppressor, and this scene revealed that.
