Those EDs though! For ED 3 though.. 1. Huge Starship Troopers reference, great movie if you never seen 2. When Shirogane spoke to Kaguya about the story of Kaguya the Moon Princess and how the prince destroyed the elixer and died because he did not want to live without her, Shirogane said he would take it and do whatever to get back to her. Translate from the EDs starting back in the day around the 20's-40s and ending with them fighting on a whole nother planet in the future, implies he took the elixir and waited all those years until he had the tech to go after her

Maki was actually in the first episode were this whole Tsubasa/Kashiwagi relationship started. When Tsubasa came to Miyuki for love advice he told him about a conversation he had with some girls, among them: Kashiwagi and Maki. After that she was always stalking them. :D

fun fact, In S2 people told you that this series is heavily inspired on Princess Kaguya story (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter). Well, there are 4 girls in Suchiin known as the "imposible girls", these girls are inspired on the objects that Princess Kaguya tasked her suitors to with collecting (the 4 impossible tasks of Kaguya-Hime) and all of them are know for their beauty and for being to difficult to approach. We met 3 already in the anime: Momo (the girl that helped Miyuki to steal the balloons, she is the Jewel from the Dragon's Neck), Tsubame (Swallow’s Cowry, we see her holding a Swallow's nest in the 3rd op) and the 3rd girl is based on the "Stone Begging Bowl of the Buddha, can you guess who? lol. Also, our main cast are based on Kaguya's suitors (Chika, Miko, Ishigami and Miyuki) and the ed 1 and 3 are like a retelling of the story (the whole "get Kaguya Back"), in the original Miyuki dies doing one of the impossible task involving a dragon (the dragon appeared in the anime alongside Momo, one of the impossible girls, with the jewel being the big Weather balloon) and he wasn't the one that Kaguya loved but in our story Miyuki succeeds.

There's actually a version of the first OP sung by Miyuki and Kaguya's VA and a version of the second OP by Ishigami and Miko's VA released as part of the "Kaguya Ultra Best" official album. You can find it on YouTube easily and I'd highly recommend you checking it out (or maybe even react to it).

Funny you should compare Masayuki Suzuki as a radio performer, because he indeed came from that era. He was pretty famous for a different genre in the 80s before finding resurgence with Love is war OPs! And yes, the same person did all the OPs for the 3 seasons AND the movie. And the lore of S3ED is S2E3p1.

It's also referencing a very old anime called Daimos and it has a similar theme. Earth was at war with angel-winged aliens basically and the MC and the angel princess fell in love. On top of defending humanity, the MC also needs to get the princess back because she's basically being imprisoned for "fraternizing" with the enemy.
