About what happened to Thorfinn: He tried to kill the prince of Denmark, which normally would result in a death sentence, especially from a former retainer which is high treason in itself. It is thanks to Canutes mercy that he only got enslaved and sold.

You’ll be happy to know that while yes the studio changed nearly ALL of the people who worked on season 1 is still working on season 2! That includes the main director, the composer, animation director, animators etc. Even the separate studio who worked on the backgrounds are back (Studio Bamboo). Just goes to show how passionate this team is to animate Vinland Saga! So you don’t need to worry too much at all. Its actually a really seamless transition from S1 to S2. Although, I do think they actually improved themselves quite a bit with this current season. It’s nothing like what happened with AOT where basically everything and the staff changed for S4. Also you were talking about how long it’s been. Thorfinn is now 19 so it’s only been over a year since the events of the prologue.

The dialogue we heard at the beginning of the episode is apparently an old Norse poem narrated in modern Icelandic. The narrator's name is Halldór Elís Ólafsson (his name is in the end credits), who works at the Icelandic embassy in Japan. S1E1 Vinland Saga was screened in the embassy around the time it premiered, and the embassy seems to have connected with the series and staff since then. The anime staff, probably the director, asked them for permission to do the dialogue in their language for S2E1.

Season 2! Can't wait for you guys to watch. Some of the best I've seen between the themes, characters, and storytelling. Season 1 was good, and necessary, but I feel we're getting to the creator's true intent with this season, and it is beautiful to see
