actually I could be wrong on this one, I swear that the opening didn't use to contain like the Future Devil and Katana Man? but maybe I just didn't notice them because I didn't know who they are haha

Reservoir Dogs is the first reference with all of them walking down the street with their suits. The Big Lebowski is the bowling scene as you rightly pointed out and there is the Alien chestburster scene in there too as far as I can tell.

damn, it's crazy how much perspective can change what we notice and don't notice! I watch the opening every single time and I never skip it, and I only noticed these guys after they were introduced in the anime. to be fair, a lot happens in the opening and the frames are quite short :D

Reservoir dogs was the beginning shot. It's also the beginning shot of Tarantino's film. I don't think it has anything to do with actual dogs ahah 😋

I didn't even clock that those shots were supposed to be movie references the first time I saw the opening, so getting one right is still pretty impressive

This is one of those openings where you don't know what you are looking at unless you know, in terms of teasing characters and their dynamics. As for the movie references, it's just one after another, it hit me way after watching the OP, Tatsuki Fujimoto is known to be a huge, huge movies fanatic. His one-shot manga Goodbye, Eri, has the element of movies as a theme and is also referenced in this Chainsaw Man opening. The shots I recognized were the beginning Reservoir Dogs reference, Pulp Fiction, and the one from my favorite movie ever, No Country for Old Men. I wasn't sure if I was making things up, so I wasn't sure about The Ring/Grudge reference and the Evangelion one, and a couple of other shots reminded me of the animes Erased, and Parasyte the Maxim. The one shot I think is most genius one is the reference to the Chainsaw Massacre movie, but my favorite reference is the shot of Power clinging to the pole asserting herself as the spirit of Glasses Power appears for half a second. 😂
