It sucks that sometimes one's happiness comes at the cost of another's.

Maki doesn't JUST work very hard. She does, but like Mai said she also has a heavenly restriction that's the opposite of Mechamaru's. Instead of a weak body and massive cursed energy Maki as almost no cursed energy. She said before that she needs those glasses she wears to even see curses. Physically she's incredible in exchange. The show actually hinted at that very subtly in the very first episode. When Megumi saw Yuji's incredible throw he thought "Maybe he's like Zenin senpai."

Was for sure waiting for this episode, this anime has some really strong women characters and this episode gave them some good shine. One of my faves.

At 12:30. As a manga reader I have to say, this were some wise words from Carlie

i also think that maki was mais comfort growing up since they were already looked down upon for being born as twins and being born into the zenin clan. as they grew up maki just wanted to prove herself and mai was prepared to live a normal life. one of my fav episodes, i always get chills

2022-10-16 21:20:47 that shot of mai & maki running holding hands always brings me to tears. all they had was each other, and mai was fine with just that, maki wasn't. just a phenomenal episode, i'm glad you guys are in the parts where the whole ensemble gets to shine :)

I feel awful for Mai, not just because her and her sister are outcasts of their family, but because I think Mai just genuinely wants her sister to be by her side. One of her lines where she says "You lair", is so disheartening. I think the reason she keeps saying she "hates" Maki, is because she feels like she's being left behind. She maybe feels her sister is going to go off and be great, while she stays behind always feeling less than. I do think it's important however, for Mai to eventually recognize her own ability, and not feel as though she needs to be the same as Maki. That she can be who she wants to be, despite the pressures from the outside.
