I am first in my dimension

Carlie & Ange

Oh no… WHO IS IT?!! Haha we thought Akshan was from this region too! They look similar

Jack Shepherd

Some generic emperors gaurd I think, might be wrong 😅 though you are right akshan is from there

Isabel

Ange was spot on about the runes! :)) Those stones are called "world runes" and are scattered throughout Runeterra. They were used as weapons in many of the wars waged by the mortals and have enormous destructive power (as you saw in Ryze's vision). Those wars are known as the "rune wars" and are indeed the same ones referenced by Heimerdinger in Arcane. Ryze basically serves as a form of guardian for Runeterra. He's a very old powerful mage who has seen the destruction the runes can let loose, so he basically travels around Runeterra trying to locate the runes before they fall into the wrong hands. In the cinematic you watched, we see that he has been storing them in the root system of Petricite trees which have the ability to absorb magic. Also there's a large chance the guy from Arcane might have not been Ryze purely because Ryze has blue skin and the guy from Arcane did not. His skin is blue from the constant exposure to the runes and he's been hunting them for a very long time, much before the events of Arcane.

Rabbid Dawg

Champ narrating with the awesome voice in the Shuriman cinematics? Nasus, or lovingly nicknamed 'Susan' (Nasus backwards) by players, League's own Egyptian Anubis-like character. He's shown briefly in the LoR cinematic fighting Renekton, crocodile man who's also his brother. He was also briefly in Ryze's cinematic.

Ryze may be the one that Heimerdinger talked about using magic to destroy cities (Ryze side I was young and naive) meaning he's so powerful to a point that he doesn't count what damage he's doing to the world (it's like destroying ants nests like its nothing or something)

it's kinda looking like Ryze https://i.redd.it/n255x8mdbfz71.png

You were pretty good with your guessings. 👍Rune-Rune Wars - Heimerdinger ! Also the connection from Rek`Sai to the Void and to Kai`Sa was a great pick. I would love to see this story evolve at some point...🤔 Nevermind Akshan, also it was adorable to see you both getting exited about the only pick that went wrong.. 😂😂 You missed Miss Fortune and I 'm pretty sure you saw a girl playing a keyboard before, right? 😜🤘🎸 And you can`t let go with the good guy and bad guy discussion, don`t you?😆 In league the answer to the question " Is he good or is he evil?" is (almost) always: "YES!" Can`t wait to see your reaction to The Call and exploring the champions on universe..😍 If you are going for two rounds on The Call I suggest to do the champions research between the views. Just like with Warriors. First nonstop to absorb the music and visuals . Second watch (with the new informations) looking for details and connections! 😉

they look similar but that is not him. The video was released before akshan were and if that was him he definitely would have his grappling hook :D

Jack Shepherd

A void event is coming very very soon in league. Hopefully will go more into kassadin, kai sa and all void stories which highly links to the fall of shirima

MasterOfPuppets

I know! 😉👍 Can't wait to see the new champion. Good to know that Jonathan is involved in it! 👍

I'd really like Ryze to be the wizard that saved Jayce because of his teleporting magic, but it's been pointed out that Ryze doesn't use a staff or runestones to cast magic where the wizard that saved Jayce and his mother did. I think Freljordian and possibly Targonian mages use staffs....which would be a cool connection in Arcane if Mel's hypothesized armor is also Targonian, like maybe she actually knew all along who saved him and his mother. Kai'Sa's stories on the LoL site are really good...she's this weird dichotomy of human girl and predator because of the Void, and it's touching once she meets Taliyah and manages to regain a little of her humanity (The Call picks up the storyline after that meeting) "In Battle, Broken" is a great story for Pantheon/Atreus if you're not familiar with the character (like I wasn't). He had been an unwilling Aspect twice already, chosen for his indomitable will again and again, and this story really humanized him like Riot is so good at doing for their heroes.

Muserj

Isn't there a large "bay" along the north coast of Noxus (directly east of the Immortal Bastion) that's speculated to be a crater that was caused by the rune wars? One of Ryze's early-history stories talks about that incident, and I'm curious if that city being taken apart by a runic firestorm in his flashback was a reference to that happening

Muserj

I'm also REALLY curious if Ryze is aware he's creating a potentially magically supercharged forest from all that World Rune magic....

Isabel

I don't think Ryze ever used runes to destroy, the flashback in the cinematic wasn't a flashback but rather a "vision" given to him by the world rune he was holding to show him the power he could gain from it. In the Ryze comic it shows him hunting a green rune which gave visions of being able to heal or revive the dead. Ryze's master also succumbed to the runes' call of power which resulted in his death, so I think his comment on being "young and naive" might refer to not being able to stop his master (his one true ally) from the same fate.

Isabel

I always thought the attire of the mage from Arcane looked very Targonian and that whole sequence when he was teleporting Jayce had a lot of celestial imagery too. There are some theories floating around that the mage might've been one of the targonian aspects of that time

Ross

Late to the game with this one sorry fam, didn't see a character breakdown in comments so i figured I'd try my hand at it, and then realized that knowing the Shuriman champs is probably less important than knowing the impact of the fall of Shurima on Runeterra, so I'll start big picture and go from there. Shurima - Desert nation, could be the nation Heim saw destroyed by mages in arcane but doubtful since Shurima falling is like WAY early in the league timeline. I'm pretty sure Shurima fell at least a 1000 years before Piltover existed? Someone fact check me there tho. Shurima is the earliest attempt by mortals to become ascended. This is what Heim is afraid of when he talks about the dangers of the arcane, and this is probably why Shurima matters so much. This plotline is more like Arcane than the Viego plotline, because its not really a good versus evil story but more a story about one emperor's thirst for power. The concept that anyone could become an ascended (an immortal demigod) is a super dangerous idea for any society but Shurima really went for it and it got the whole nation destroyed. Azir, their first emperor went full send on trying to become a god, gets betrayed by a mage in his court named Xerath who steps into the magical ceremony at the last second. Xerath ascends, Azir, and his warriors/guardians (Renekton and Nasus) fight him, and they seal Xerath away (along with Renekton - woops but had to be done), but in the process destroy the country. The fall of Shurima changed Runeterra in two ways. It made it clear that it is possible for a mortal to become an ascended, and it also sent the Brackern into hibernation. HUGE LEAGUE LORE/POTENTIAL ARCANE SPOILER BELLOW: There is a magical race of scorpions in Runterra called Brackern. They are made of crystals and carry in those crystals the memories and souls of their ancestors. These are the Hex crystals Jayce uses for Hextech. The magical power they release is literally the life force of their intelligent/sentient/conscious scorpion ancestors. They lived in Shurima but when the country destroyed itself, the whole race of Brackern buried themselves and put themselves in a magically induced hibernation to hide their power away from mortal greed. That clearly didn't work out cause now they are being mined for the crystals they carry anyway, but at least it bought a 1000 years? Only one Brackern has managed to pull himself from this magically induced hibernation, but I wont spoil him yet. I will say he can hear the language of his people and their screams and suffering as they are being mined/used as magical recourses so he's not a supper happy guy. END SPOILERS COMMENTS ARE SAFE FROM HERE

The one thing that makes me think its ryze are the tatoos of runes on his hands and stuff. not sure if thats a ryze specific thing or if targonian aspects would also have rune tatoos like that. There's also a skin in game called "young ryze" that is ryze before his physical skin was blue. that might have been the ryze they used in arcane to teleport jayce and his mom? Not sure.

Rabbid Dawg

Really love your explanations. I knew only a couple things from the stories I've read on the site and stuff I've heard from Necrit, but not everything! Thanks for filling in the gaps. I'm just a mindless league player.

Ross

haha dw I'm just a slightly well read mindless league player, but glad I could help.

MasterOfPuppets

I think many people are afraid that they will change the lore regarding the brackern and HexTech. It might also be usefull for Riot to get Seraphine more accepted. This could be the reason so many people voted for this years VGU... To show their support to the current lore! 👍

Ross

would love to see them rewrite the bracken lore, cause at least that means they're doing something with it.

Muserj

There are a lot of mages in Runeterra who use tattoos as a way of focusing/channeling arcane power. I believe that was the reason that Viktor etched runes into his leg brace in Arcane before the first transformation and then carved them into his flesh all over his body before attempting the second. I don't know if they're more prevalent in Targonian culture though either. I thought Ryze turned blue/violet either during or just after the World Rune Wars when he defeated his corrupted master Tyrus and took the world runes he had been hoarding, so he would have been blue for nearly 1,000 years by the time Jayce was born. Did turn color later than that?

MasterOfPuppets

I think the fear is, that they won't rewrite but delete it. We'll see. Exciting topic for sure! 👍

Isabel

Yeah I think that's very likely. Ryze is covered in tattoos of runes, which if i remember correctly, allow him to use arcane magic which could also contribute to his blue skin. In Arcane, Viktor was engraving runes into his leg, but It's been theorized that the hexcore he and Jayce created was touched by the Void, hence the purple color and Vik's corrupted purple leg. Riot is normally very consistent with their color choices, so although not always the case, Void=purple, Arcane magic=blue, Chemtech=Green, etc.
