I'm not saying there is no buildup for Kataang, but they were obviously leaning into the idea of Zutara at some point (especially season 2 cave scene and most of their season 3 interactions) and I think people who don't see that are in denial. There were jokes about Katara being his gf written in since season 1!

Don't worry Carlie, I'm on your side. As a former young woman myself and the same age as Katara when this was airing, Kataang felt 🥴 to me. I'm all for Zutara as well, it just make more sense.

i've been rewatching atla for ages now and i've never read Katara's reaction to the kiss as uncomfortable, more like taken aback because she definitely didn't expect Aang to do that, but she was blushing for sure 😭

I agree with ange that it's been set up since season 1, but that doesn't mean it's good. I know there's only a 2 year difference (or 100 if you wanna get technical), but the difference in maturity from age 12 to 14 is quite noticable. I can see that Katara cares for Aang, but I've never thought of them as a couple, and it feels very one sided. The romance between them is probably the only flaw in the show for me personally.
