I feel as if this is kind of a reprise of the episode in which Sokka is stressing out about his schedule (which we can now see was obviously more a reflection of his anxiety than of reality, since they spent several days waiting for him to train with his sword master, took their time in lots of other places, and still made it to the rendezvous point with four days to spare). Sokka got all of his anxiety about the invasion out of his system in that episode; now it's Aang's turn to stress out about it. While I do love Iroh, I actually think that it was absolutely necessary for Zuko to have this time away from him in order to figure things out for himself. While Iroh's with him, everything Zuko does can be framed as him either following Iroh or rebelling against him. He even has that fever dream in which he casts Iroh as the angel dragon on his shoulder. Once on his own, he's forced to determine who he wants to be outside of that immediate influence. In the long run, I think that's healthier.
