One thing about this episode I realize more after seeing this show as many times as I have, as this is kinda an example of how selfish Katara can be, though this one isn't as noticed by people because, based on our western morals, the ones in the wrong is the water tribe. But when you remember that Katara is a guest in a foreign culture, asking for their help on several important matters, and demanding they bend to her will and give her what she wants on top of that, then yeah, you start understanding it from Pakku's angle a bit more, and you see that this shows one of Katara's character flaws, though in this specific case her flaw serves her.

Considering she's in the avatars party and is also keeping their one chance at winning the war and not being eradicated safe its not an unreasonable request that their culture take a backseat because if she couldn't protect aang they wouldn't be around to keep their traditions going
