While others may see it as an ordinary disposable lighter, Luna sees it as a last memento left behind by her father after his untimely demise.

It was midnight when Luna and her mom received the call that her dad, Nigel, was shot dead while responding to an active shooter that very same night.

By the time they got to the coroner's office, what awaited them was her father's cold, dead corpse, devoid of any color except that of a shade of purple, and a pouch with all his belongings: his wallet, an old flip-phone, a box of cigarettes, and a disposable lighter.

Carrying it with her at all times, Luna seemingly developed sentiment for it, especially since she always saw how her father loved to smoke to relieve stress after a long day at work, despite her mother always scolding him to 'put it out' and 'not inside to smoke the house'.

As days and weeks turned to years, Luna eventually came into the habit as well, smoking whenever she had time. Whenever the lighter was starting to run low, Luna refilled it herself instead of buying a new one. Whenever someone wanted to borrow it, she always made sure that they'd return it. Whenever she was bored, or felt that she was alone, she sometimes just lit it up and stared at the flames as it flickers; turning away the shadows that was trying to creep up into her mind slowly.

It's warmth, though not enough to drive away the long, cold nights Luna has to endure while patrolling through the streets of Ablesmith City, still serves as a reminder on why she took up the badge in the first place.

As Ablesmith City lost one of it's undaunting defenders the night her father was killed, another one was forged by the light of something as simple and mundane as a lighter.

And so at the end of the day, she became the light to guide others out of darkness.
