(These understanding come from experimenting with myself, by teaching many students and interviewing many Mathematicians and Physicists. and conclude the intersection by myself)

when someone is trying to understand math by writing down the text at the side of the paper as a short note? Thinking about the answer inside their head? Listen carefully to the teacher in front of the room? or carefully read and try to understand every step in the lecture?

Yet, they still can’t solve any math problems… Why?

The main reason is…They don’t write down the solution…

”ORDERLY”

Orderly writing is NOTHING about the beauty or easy reading as many mentions. It’s all about the steps or sequences. a hidden gem inside. Let me explain more why…

By nature of Mathematics. Math is not all about calculating the number. The main concept of math and problem solving is

“They have their own step or solving”

For someone who can understand Math fast, it’s because they can see the actual steps of solving that problem and are able to remember them very fast. They can remember it by Rote memory, or refer to the previous knowledge they know or etc.

No matter how they remember it, They must know it to solve the problem.

And what is the best technique to remember so many steps in a single try…

By writing it down ORDERLY.

your brain will automatically remembers the step without knowing. the more examples you take, the more Recall you do. and the better chance you know how to solve the problems because you already know its steps. It automatically manages the way your brain thinks. and after that, you can do in naturally (that’s why someone who good at math can’t explain why they understand…because the don’t know they already remember the steps)

and you may see someone can answer the question correctly without writing anything down on the paper…how?

Because they already have solid steps inside their brain. They may did a lot of paperwork before, or they have some previous solid knowledge that is almost identical to the problem in front of them. No matter how, I’m sure they already know the exact full steps inside their head. (But when they explain to others, they mostly skips some important steps without knowing)

If you want to be better at Math, Physics and Programming…Just write it down ORDERLY. By just reading and listening won't works...at all. I know it’s boring, but it’s necessary. You must remember the step anyway, no matter what.
