This comic didn’t spark my interest, since I’m not a big mlp fan, and same sex pairing make me feel uncomfortable.

I feel like it needed a bit more story behind it. People who aren't already familiar with Twilight and Starlight might be just a bit lost (and even though I was quite familiar with them, it still felt a bit slim.)

That's an interesting point, but not introducing characters is always a needed sacrifice if the number of pages is limited (which is the case in every of the comics made here). In such stories, we unfortunately need to assume that the readers will be already familiar with the characters so we can get straight to the point.
