Chapter 001 – Desire

[March – 2008]

Short and wild black hair, bright blue eyes, flawless pale skin, and a lanky, but athletic figure.

This is what I saw when I looked in the mirror and normally that wouldn't really need to be mentioned, except that this wasn't 'me'.

It hadn't even been an hour ago when I had still been a fit brown-haired guy just on his way to the supermarket. Though after having blacked out for no apparent reason, I had woken up in a different body and in another bedroom than my own with new memories pouring into my mind.

It had taken me quite some time to navigate through that mess of memories and figure out what had happened and where I had landed. Thankfully those memories seemed 'distant' and 'foreign', so they hadn't inadvertently changed who I was.

Sighing to myself, I left the bathroom and went back to 'my' room.

The house I currently found myself in was a small two-story family home in a quiet residential district in a Japanese town named Kuoh.

This teenage boy's biological parents thankfully weren't home as both of them seemed to work overseas and only came home for a few weeks around Christmas each year.

These things though were all minor unpleasantries, including the fact that I had somehow transmigrated when looking at the big picture.

It wasn't just the town's name that made it clear that I found myself in a very dangerous situation, as I was also supposed to attend a high school called Kuoh Academy, which had been an all-female school just a few years back.

I may have only occasionally read Light Novels in the past, as much of my time was dedicated to playing professional chess and traveling around attending tournaments, but I had a pretty good memory and clearly remembered the one called Highschool DxD.

Still, the most damning evidence I had, that I truly found myself in a whole new Universe, was the fact that Issei Hyoudou lived on the other side of the street with his parents. Not only that, but we had also apparently attended the same middle school before.

Like any rational and mentally healthy person, my first instinct had been to pack my bags and just hightail my way out of this town and preferably this country. From what I understood about this world, moving to a small town in the middle of nowhere in America would probably be my best bet when it came to avoiding all this Supernatural drama.

Still, after my initial panic had died down somewhat, I realized that this was just wishful thinking. Any member of the Supernatural community could easily take my life, be that Stray Devil, Exorcist, or even the weakest Fallen.

Without knowing which territory I was in, running away to hide out was a bad idea, especially since I didn't know if I had a Sacred Gear.

Sacred Gears, as I remember, were supernatural items gifted to special individuals amongst the human race and human hybrids. These items were bound to the soul of an individual and granted them special supernatural powers.

The difference in power between Sacred Gears was great, from doubling the user's power to boosting it infinitely, to creating swords of all shapes and attributes, or even rare healing abilities. Still, one fact remained and that was that Sacred Gear users were highly sought after by the different Supernatural Factions.

The Three Biblical Factions, including the rest of the Supernatural community, could sense the existence of these Sacred Gears even if the host had not yet awakened them, which meant that if I was in the possession of one, trying to hide away and live a quiet life wasn't really an option anymore.

Taking in a few calming breaths, I knew that I had no choice but to try and awaken my Sacred Gear, and make decisions about my future after I had either succeeded or not.

'Desire.', I thought, 'Let's see how great my desire for power truly is then.'

Standing in the middle of my room, my left hand tightly held onto my right wrist, as I closed my eyes and dove deep into my own subconsciousness.

I imagined having to face off against all those high and mighty entities like the Satans, Gods, and even ultimate beings such as Ophis and Great Red. My strained mind gave life to those fantasies, as I could feel fear, despair, and helplessness rising from the depths of my soul.

And as these dark emotions nearly overwhelmed my mind, I wished for power. With every fiber of my being, I wished for the kind of power that enabled me to never have to face such despair in my life.

I wished and even prayed for power, the kind of power that would make me a monster among monsters, a Devil amongst Devils, a God amongst Gods. And my prayers were answered.

Professional chess huh 👀

GodOfFreedom

You caught that, did ya? *Me smiling, before turning around and whispering to the shadows*: 'I want him gone.'

Kris Larsen

It's obvious who you want the paring to be with the professional chest part.

GodOfFreedom

Not really. I just thought this would add an interesting bid to the character and give me the opportunity to maybe pair him up with Sona, but I have since decided against that.
