We just haven't gone far enough to find the doors and windows in the heavens. They're out beyond the Oort Cloud.

Finally found the Choctaw legend of a flood. Some of the wording in the translation is odd and ends with "testimony" of how much it is related to the "Christian" story (found it interesting that it says "Christian" and not "Biblical". Anyway... in it, he does not save animals, only his family. Also, the birds of prey fly up to the sky and latch their talons in it (yep, the sky) until the flood waters have passed and they resume their life. So, if you take out the part about the darkness over the land for days and days... and the "light" coming from the north, and that Peni Ikbi quickly made the boat for himself and his family, and that he didn't have animals onboard.... and the crow.. etc... and add in the other Biblical stuff... you have a "perfect" recounting of Noah's flood as found in the Bible... (kind of.... well...not really) I take this rendering of the story with a grain of salt because, as the last bit mentions (not related to the flood story) that Tanapoh Ikbi is the origin of the Tombigbee river. I remember that it was Itombi Ikbi or coffin maker, It was said to be a man who lived along the river who made coffins. [there's a place near here called Toomsuba: Itombi isuba or horse grave/coffin (possible a honoured/special horse)]. https://accessgenealogy.com/native/choctaw-tradition-flood.htm PS: Just noticed that this was taken from Cushman's, "History of the Choctaw, Chickasaw and Natchez". He was the son of missionaries who had come to Mississippi in the early part of the 19th century. In the first part of his book, he tries to make a tie between the Choctaw word for man, hattak, and the word Hittite. (there is no relation). Being a Christian missionary himself, it makes sense that he would make the connection between the stories.
