If this were still supposed to be targeted at a younger demographic, I feel like we would be more accepting of lines that just explicitly state the subtext of the scenes they are in. I think the original show had some lines that were as on-the-nose as the couple at the beginning of the funeral, but the tone of the show made those lines stand out less, so maybe it is another artifact of different people involved with the show being on different pages about the tone.

I definitely thought Katara was one of the weaker points one first watch, but knowing where she goes at the end, on rewatch I think it’s a stronger performance
