Choosing to leave certain terms untranslated is very weeb culture. Cringe all the time at the outcries of “nakamas” from people that get into one piece, and it’s in large thanks to Kaizoku Fansubs for spreading that culture around. That said, there is a line in episode 86 that I do appreciate how they translated vs official subs. It goes hard.

Is Hiruluk being naked that shocking? I mean obviously it's weird... but Luffy has been traipsing around in shorts and sandals this whole time. I thought it was a clever way of more convincingly saying "I mean you no harm!" in the absurdist world of One Piece.

What's Hiruluk's devil fruit again? Yes, an old man in the snow suddenly whipping off his clothes (which appear to be hanging from his groin) can and probably should still be shocking in an absurdist setting or not.

i really don't get your overreaction to a character getting naked to "expose" himself like that. Chopper is an animal at this point that is scared of humans with tools like guns and pitchforks so getting naked to show you are not a threat works for Chopper who has personal fears about humans, especially when many types of animals "expose" themselves as a way to show they are not a threat
