Most anime recaps are basically for the same reason. Anime productions are usually basically completing episodes the same week they are broadcast. So if they get behind they throw out a clip show to get some room to breathe. Also pre-streaming you had few options if you missed an episode so a recap at the half-way point may well be useful to many people.
