Something I always say to friends I show this show to is to think of character decision making as prioritizing one of two things. In my opinion thinking about characters’ decisions in this way helps with understanding why they made those choices. (I also think it helps understand the show generally) The two things are: information and lives For the characters who prioritize information, it’s not that they don’t care about lives, they are just choosing information now for possible future lives saved through that information. For those who prioritize lives, they care more about those around right now and keeping them alive (soldier or civilian). Erwin is an example of a character who is the extreme of those who prioritize information. Maybe this will help with understanding character choices :)

I also think of these as on a spectrum or scale. So on one side is those who prioritize information over all lives and on the other side is those who prioritize lives over any information. And all characters fall somewhere onto this scale. This also works best for scouts

They definitely missed it! They think that titan is dead. I never noticed its arm twitch in episode 2 until my most recent rewatch.
