Thank you so much for this episode. I hope you continue this series.. Most Koreans do not eat live octopus or squid (some do but that's not just a Korean thing) but they do want them live because they are fresh and FRESH seafood is best, they don't want any seafood that was frozen. The translation was a bit off, when it said "is it live" she actually said was it packaged today, meaning killed today and packaged today. Marts like that that have the meat and seafood in a separate building like that, do so because they have a huge tank with the seafood still alive (like a butcher that just packages what they need for sale that day), as the shelf clears they pull more out and package it. The seafood is delivered in the middle of the night, as is the beef and pork and chicken fresh from the farm. Sorry for the long explanation, but I wanted to clear up they were not going to eat it live, she just really asked if it was fresh(that day) seafood. Also black pig/pork is a Jeju specialty, the black pigs being much larger and meatier and Koreans say tastier, black pigs for some reason are only raised on (or mostly) Jeju.
