Because of the sheer amount of mana that Makoto possesses, he is immune to all status effects such as curses and poison, with a scene in the manga having all of the main caste demonstrating this by applying multiple status spells on him, all did nothing to him. I didn't catch if it was said in the anime, but the test Makoto took is the hardest one, in fact all of the other participants forfeited. In the manga their was a bit more of a scene after getting back to present his results, the elven archer calls foal/accuses on Makoto using a different bow than the one provided by the academy for collecting the ranged orbs, and the lion bestman bemoans struggling to even damage the physical orbs enough to get one, and the hyuman was shocked to hear Makoto saying that the monsters of the test ground were easy. The assassin was the only one to come into the testing ground afterwards, having intimidated the lion beastman into forfeiting.

didn't notice on my 1st watch but noticed now. the reason the red orb exploded when he poked it was beacuse all his mana meant he touched it physically and magically so it blow up because magic touched it when it was a physical only
