Kill is the correct word, he didn’t nullify or cancel anything his power just lets him kill anything and everything, from inanimate objects to concepts. He could kill a door if he wanted to.

you don't kill an icicle, you either nullify/cancel/destroy its properties kill implies that you're ending the life of an organic substance, of course there's outlier cases like androids or robots also there's no point in arguing about semantics, everyone has the same understanding of what his powers does

to be fair: the ability of analyzing problems and coming up with suitable solutions is probably an EXTREMELY powerful ability to have in a party. However: it´s pretty much useless if it's your ONLY ability and you don´t have people around that can actually make use out of the solutions you provide. So yeah, depending on the circumstances, that ability can be completely overpowered OR utterly useless^^
